How Do You Make Yourself Blog When You Don't Feel Like Writing?

When you start blogging, you start with so many ideas and intentions on what you want to say and how you want to say it. You dream of what the reach will be like, or maybe you just wanted to create a space to vent. A place that is all your own. Even if you had no idea what your blog would be or look like, it was exciting because it was new. ...more

A Foodie's Take on Freezer Meals: Don't Believe the Hype

Cutting to the chase on freezer meals: Except in limited cases, no. Just, no.First you should know who you're dealing with though. I'm a home cook who has gotten good enough in the kitchen to put on airs and alternatively, throw fits when dishes do not come out just right....more

My reflections on NaBloPoMo...

My alarm awakened me at 4:30 this morning for the first time this month. I haven't missed that blaring sound blasting inches from my head. However, today I definitely missed the extra hour I've typically had for writing my daily blog posts by not "sleeping in" till 4:30....more

Thanksgiving joy and gratitude doodles

As the food coma wears off and another Thanksgiving comes to an end, I’m feeling especially grateful for family, friends, and fantastic feasts. I especially loved a new feature at my mom’s table–doodles. She covered the table in white paper and supplied a rainbow of sharpies for us to draw what we were thankful for this year. So fun!Since I’m still too full for tons of words, I’ll let pictures do the talking today…...more

Exam time: I'm not "giving" grades

“Where did you see the score??”“She just posted them.”“When? I just looked awhile ago.”“No, like just posted.”I listened as awareness and surreptitious online gradebook checking rippled throughout the room before class started.Damn. Our first meeting in 10 days and the atmosphere felt dark and pensive. Not the way I wanted to begin the semester’s last hurrah....more

Controlling the teacher rage. Barely.

I was mid-sentence when he shuffled in, 11 minutes late. Teaching a morning class for most semesters over the last seven years, I’ve tried to pretend like I’ve made peace with this type of tardy behavior, so I ignored him.Image from http://pancakesaresosexy.tumblr.com/...more

5 Confessions from a Paleo Dieter

You guys, I really want to lose the baby weight I accumulated in the last few years from two back-to-back pregnancies. I also REALLY like to eat food. I really like to eat good for me, healthy food. But I also REALLY like to eat not so good for me homemade pizza and ice cream. And I typically throw in a few glasses of wine to round me out each night. So, for the most part, we do really well. ...more

I just realized how much I miss Google Reader

Looking back, 2009 was one of the most auspicious years of my life. I finished a thesis, earned a Master’s degree, got engaged, launched a blog(!), moved out of state, started a doctoral program, and maintained a long-distance relationship. But you know what I just realized I really miss? Google Reader. Stay with me....more
