It's time to rethink social media. ...more

How to Participate in a Twitter Chat

I can remember my first few Twitter chats well. I thought I was prepared. I had my favorite armchair, a cup of coffee, a laptop, and a hashtag. What could go wrong? Then I tried to attend the chat using Twitter. Instead of networking with other attendees I spent most of my time re-entering the hashtag and trying to catch up on the discussion. Before I knew it, the chat was over and I didn't have much to show for my attendance. Today I'll tell you what a Twitter chat is, how to attend one, and how to make the most of your time. ...more

8 Tips for Taking Better Camera Phone Photos This Year

I'll start off by admitting the obvious: I am by no means a mind-blowing photographer. A lengthy scroll through my 1,600 Instagram photos, if you dare, will tell the tale of improvement; although there still are plenty of hastily taken and posted photos. However, I did do that art school thing: I'm clear about the basic principles/elements of design and composition, blah blah blah....more

The Spirit of Giving

Our family has always celebrated Christmas in a big way.  Some would say in an excessive manner.  But I ask, what is wrong with excess (tempered by reason, of course)?  I LOVE buying people gifts, and there is nothing more exciting for me than to watch them open.  I love decorating (I ususally have 3 Christmas trees along with Hannukkah decorations), I love wrapping, I enjoy giving....more
Christmas really is more about giving than getting. The photo is gorgeous! more

Help! I'm Boring Myself With My Blog Posts

I have several partially written drafts of posts, but I can’t seem to make any of them make sense. They start out okay, and the core ideas are good, but the execution keeps eluding me. At some point they all seem to break down into incoherent ramblings that fail to relate back to the main idea I am trying to convey. I want to keep my writing tight, interesting, and entertaining. Instead I am wandering about like I am the kid in a Family Circus cartoon. Is this my own personal form of writer’s block? I’m not blocked from writing, but I am blocked from writing well? If so, how should I proceed? ...more

Are Bloggers Only Writing for Other Bloggers?

If I post every day, do things on my blog change? If I post every day, do my numbers grow? By numbers we are talking engagement, followers, comments, and that ultimate Blogger-Heaven of Good Pagehits. Bloggers (including me) are trying to answer these questions for themselves during a time when we can find a lot of support from a community where others are also striving towards the same goals. We all hold hands and jump off the blogger-edge together. Thelma & Louise style. Sorta. Yet we are 10 days in to NaBloPoMo (give or take), and I find myself asking a BIGGER question: As bloggers, are we only talking to ourselves? ...more

The Cheesy, Meatless Casserole You've Been Craving

I grew up in a family with 10 kids, which meant big casseroles that could feed a crowd were on the menu pretty often at our house. Now that I'm an adult and usually just feeding one or two people, I like casseroles for the way you can cook them once, then freeze reheat them for quick meals later. ...more
