I Was Raped and Abandoned in the Snow

I'd like to tell you a story. It's about a 14-year-old girl who was manipulated by a 17-year-old boy. He and his friends coerced her to drink and drink until she couldn't walk, and then they raped her. They dragged her, crying, out to the car, and dropped her off in the snow of her front yard in the middle of the night. You might think I'm talking about Daisy Coleman, and you'd be right, I am. But I'm also talking about me....more

Blogiversary: Unexpected Lessons from One Year of Blogging

On August 4th, 2012, this space was born. I was away on vacation last week, so we’re celebrating late. Sorry, sweet little blog. I have thought about what I would say in this post often the past year. Much like an actress practicing her Academy Award speech after her first so-so B-film, I thought about what I’d reveal; how much I’ve learned, how much I’ve grown, who I’d thank, etc., etc. ...more
Congrats on your one-year anniversary!   P.S. Me too. more

Interview with The Bloggess

Jenny Lawson (The Bloggess) has entertained us for years with her eclectic sense of humor and her commitment to the community via The Traveling Red Dress Project. Her accidental philanthropy shows her heart is bigger than her metal chicken. I was so excited to hear Jenny's memoir, Let's Pretend This Never Happened, is out in paperback (with a bonus chapter) this month. I've grown to know Jenny over the past few years via blogging, and I've never met anyone quite like her -- raw, loving, brave and crazy like a fox. ...more

Nanny Arrested in NYC Murders: Surround This Mom Blogger with Love

There are certain things in this life that I simply never want to understand. Here are a few: What life feels like to live without your children. The bone-crushing guilt that must accompany any decision that led to your children being harmed -- no matter that your choices were rational, the best any mother could do. The ridicule, finger-pointing, and judgment of complete strangers when your family tragedy becomes national news. Knowing that Marina Krim, a mother in New York City whose two children were allegedly murdered by their nanny, is dealing with all of those feelings -- and more -- makes my heart break. But I have hope....more

I can’t believe it’s time for DWTS again.  Didn’t the last season wrap up, like, yesterday?  Seriously, it feels like it did.  So we’re at season 15, 162 so-called “stars” have participated, and a shit-ton of spray tan has been spilled.  I still don’t understand anything Bruno says.  Let’s get some subtitles a la Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.  Pretty please?...more
