148 Squadron of the RAF

Everyone has a story of back then, and this is my family's.Five days after George turned 22 on May 15th, 1942, he enlisted to become a Pilot Officer of the RCAF. I'm not sure why he decided to volunteer for duty; though he was young, just bordering on that age that still believes in invincibility, and was most likely still idealistic enough to believe that he could change the world....more

Nerd New Year 11/11/11

It's amazing what a set of numbers can do!For numerologists, our entire being is based in number patterns, and landing the #11 is highly auspicious. It, along with the number 22 are known as Master numbers. I checked my family's birthdays to see if anyone came out as an 11, and I was kinda intrigued with the results. Me and my DH are 7 and 8 respectively, my brother and DH's brother are both 11s.O.o...more

How Close Do You Think We Are to Microsoft's World?

I've just spent the last 6.17 mins watching what Microsoft sees as the future. It wasn't until ShesConnected Conference that I really gave any thought of where companies would get their ideas to move forward with new technology. When I got to watch Sheryl Connelly discuss her work in Global Consumer Trends and Futuring for Ford Motor Company, I was finally able to get a proper picture of how companies work on getting that next "good idea" to wow their consumers and make it into the next level of technological advancement....more

Entertain Me NOW... please!

If you read me yesterday, you might remember my saying to keep an eye out for certain companies that are no doubt aiming for the top of the tech list? There's a new leak on an upcoming HTC smartphone that will encase a 1.5GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset. What does this mean in layman's terms? It'll be one fast mo-fo. Your phone is Wile E. Coyote and this new HTC Quad-Core Superphone currently titled as the "Edge", is the Road Runner. ...more

The Golden Wrapper

I'm sure the countdown to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Smartphone Launch has begun by now!New smartphone launches are always exciting, 'cause developers are frequently pushed to the edge to create something extraordinary for the latest embodiment of communication devices. And as much as it pains me for how quickly a computer or TV can become "old tech" these days (*cough* only six months before potentially obsolete*cough*), these have nothing on the near non-existent shelf life of smartphones....more

Pushing Blogging on Unsuspecting Mothers-To-Be

I'll admit, I'm a blogging junky. This particular blog might be new, but I've been hopping in and out of the blogging world for probably ten years now (one of my first blogs was put together while I attended Seneca College for web design, as a portfolio piece... and sadly, that party of my life was more than a decade ago.) OMG, I'm old. ...more

Maybe I Should Have Signed Up for NaNoWriMo Instead....

Nah.I've tried NaNoWriMo for a couple of years... I think roughly from years 2002 to 2005, though I never completed the 50,000 word challenge.  And wasn't like I was hurting for ideas to "bash" out on my computer, or anything, 'cause I do enjoy making up stories... mostly fantasy/sci-fi in nature, which you'd think would be the easiest to write, since you could make so much stuff up, but it really is hard to do.And I had the basic formula of how many words to write in a day too, which I believe was roughly 1675 a day to make it over the 50,000 mark by November 30th....more

Starbucks Saved Me From the Perils Of Not Connected

So here I am, sitting at a Starbucks, because my internet went down unexpectedly a couple hours ago, and I need to get my NaBloPoMo entry done asap. It wasn't until I sat down that I realised what I'd want to talk about... And if you haven't guessed it yet, it would be: What The Heck Would We do Without The Internet? When did you first go "online"? I can still remember the High School librarian coming into my English class to tell us the exciting news that our computer room had access to the internet. That was back in 1997, and I've been online ever since. ...more

Vive Le Plus Revolution!!

So on November 15th I will be live blogging from the On The Curve: The Time is Now fashion show. Going to a Plus Sized fashion show will be a first for me, so it will definitely be an experience! In the meantime.... ...more

Long Live The Geeks

I purchased my first Poppy pin of the season in honor of our beloved soldiers, and suddenly I know what I'm going to write about for November 11th, 2011. Well actually, there are two topics I'd like to cover that day, but perhaps I can create a leading post for one topic the day before instead. ... Have I confused you yet? My #geek was totally showing today at 6:30 AM. Quite possibly to an uncomfortable level for everyone involved on Twitter this morning, heh.  ...more
