Make Water Yummier in Summer

Hydrating is easier done, for most of us, when drinking something with a little flavor. Water is fine, yeah, sure, but many folks are trying their best to come off of soda, juice, or sweet tea addictions. Or those drinks that carry yucky chemicals that we're now finding can cause cancer. And that were billed as healthy alternatives for sugar for so long. Fabulous. So yes, water is good, but if you'd like a little something extra, this is an inexpensive, quick, easy, and alkalizing (amazing for your body) way to dress up that water that you should be sipping on all day long as the sun beats down on you....more

UPDATE as of 12/22/10: Due to the volume and quality of submissions, we are delaying release of Phase 1 of BlogHer '11 programming until after the holidays, mid-January. This will also delay the launch of the Room of Your Own submission process, since Room of Your Own submissions are designed to fill holes in the Phase 1 programming. We know this extra time will help our seventh annual conference have the best, most original and creative, programming ever! Tips for Your Vision Boards

At the beginning of this month as we contemplated the concept of creativity, I challenged you to create a vision board for yourself: a board which would visually capture the things that you hope for yourself for the year to come. This past weekend, as is our tradition, my 6-year-old daughter and I created our own vision boards (an aside: this is a great project to do with your kids, particularly when they're on vacation from school and you have no idea what to do with them while they're home. Alex loves doing vision boards, and I love doing them with her -- and it takes some time to do, so we always feel like we've spent some quality time together as a result). ...more

Own Your Beauty: On Being Multi-Racial in the Racist, Rural South

So what could I do? My 12-year old self became obsessed with beauty. Surely if I could be graceful enough, lovely enough, I would be good enough over-all. I would be accepted. I stayed in on weekends and studied Cosmo magazines and Seventeen and whatever else I could get my hands on to figure out the perfect makeup, the perfect hair, the perfect charm and carriage. I practiced my facial expressions in the mirror until I could arch one eybrow perfectly and smile brightly, showing off my white teeth and green eyes (something that was often commented upon - "are those your REAL eyes?") ...more
