Is There Someone You Need to Forgive?

"Forgiveness is a virtue of the brave." --Indira Gandhi As I approach my 40th birthday, I've been thinking a lot about the past before I move into a new middle aged (good heavens!) present. As is the case anytime you reflect on the past, there are going to be memories of people who hurt you, of people you hurt, and of times you hurt yourself. Considering forgiving someone, asking for forgiveness, or even forgiving yourself can make you feel vulnerable and scared, but consider the benefits: ...more

Mommy Week in Review: baby fever at 6 mos., judging moms of boys, non-competitive momblogging

I have a baby, I want a baby! I have serious baby fever and it’s completely irrational. I crave baby deliciousness 24-7, as if I didn't have enough (I do; he's 100% delicious). I want to be pregnant; I have a seven month old.  I hated being pregnant. I remember, when I had a wailing newborn, my mother in law warned me that at around six months, I’d want another baby. I laughed and said I wasn’t so sure I even wanted the one I had, much less another one. ...more

Counting Down the Days...

As much as I complain during the school year about school lunches, driving kids back and forth to school, after school clubs and concerts... I CANNOT WAIT for school to start again. I know, I'm such a contradiction. I really do hate all of those things but what I love is a good schedule. Without a schedule I'm doomed, doomed I say. (Was that a wee bit melodramatic or what?) It isn't the kids who are driving me nuts... it's the freedom. I need schedules. ...more

Let's talk about lunch boxes

I know plenty of you are going to stick your fingers in your ears and chant "LALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" at this one, but I can no longer deny the reality: School is starting up again in just a few weeks. (Yes, I know those of you who don't live in the south have more time; maybe as much as a month before heading back. But for us it's just around the corner.) Every year I embark on a quest for the perfect Lunch Containment System (LCS). Every year I get a little bit closer to perfection. By the time the kids leave for college I'm pretty sure I'll have mastered it. Ahem. ...more

Travel knitting

So I leave for my Chicago/BlogHer vacation soon. I don't have a single travel-sized knitting project on the go. And I'm not sure I'll really have time to start before I go. I'm still rather slow and awkward when it comes to casting on projects. Ideally I'd like to have a pair of socks on my needles but I don't know if that is going to happen.

How are you celebrating Canada Day?

We're currently undecided. If the rain holds off (unlikely but there's always hope...) we will probably head to the local agricultural museum (aka The Farm) for some old-time fun like potato sack and three-legged races. Then we'll head down to the lake and watch one my husband's coworkers perform with his band. If it rains we have no idea. Maybe we'll watch Strange Brew and call each other hosers. ;-) How are you celebrating Canada's birthday this year? Fireworks? Bbq? Rock concert? Are you heading out to a parade or maybe even heading to the big event at Parliament Hill?
