Tomboys and Pretty Little Girls: Why Should She Have to Choose One or the Other?

I’ve seen a few things in my online adventures recently that reminds me that little boys are supposed to be wild and get dirty and little girls are supposed to be pretty and gentle. This encourages me to get my daughter out playing in the dirt. Yesterday she was dressed in yoga pants and a shirt with a nice warm sweater and she was asking for her hat. We knew that her summer hat would not do. Joe fished her Ottawa Senators baseball cap out of our ‘outdoor accessories’ basket. With the cap on top of her messy hair that I no longer expect to be able to tame (just like Mommy’s), she looked like a tomboy and I told her so. Today I’m re-thinking my word....more

My Jane Eyre Confession

After two of you lovely ladies mentioned it specifically in the last week, coupled with the fact that I don't have any library books checked out (I know! It's very odd!), I finally picked The Eyre Affair off the shelf where it's been languishing since oh, at least 2006. I just finished it and I completely and totally understand why you all love it so much. But I feel I need to confess something and I'm not sure I could confess it anywhere *but* here.

Getting excited about fall releases

I'm *not* wishing away the summer. I'm really, really not. Don't get me started on how crappy of summer we've had so far and how much rain we've received here. I'm not really wishing for fall to come because that means winter is right around the corner. I've got a lot of Vitamin D to soak up before that. BUT, since fall is looming ahead of us we might as well look on the bright side right? And that bright is books. Glorious, glorious books.

Introducing myself....

Hi, Book Clubbers! My name is Angie, and I just recently joined the Blogher community. I actually signed up a few months ago but life got in the way and I didn't get involved until now. I'm an avid reader and I love to read the classics, especially. I suppose that's my inner-English major coming out. I'm a book junkie. :-)
