Let's Do a Little Homework and Make the World a Prettier Place

Oh J.C. Penney, stop trying to be Forever 21. This morning, I awoke to the tweeted news that a sweatshirt featuring the slogan “I’m Too Pretty to do Homework” was being marketed at the J.C. Penney website for girls aged seven to twelve -- or the people who shop online for them, if you want to get picky. ...more

What Happens When You Ask People Not to Say "Retard"

Let's say you have a child with disabilities who has cognitive delays, and when people jokingly use the word "retard" to call someone stupid, it bothers you. Let's say that in honor of Spread The Word To End The Word day, you decide to do a little project: For a few days you will message people on Twitter who use the word "retard" and let them know the r-word is derogatory to people with disabilities. You don't actually expect the word to disappear anytime soon or that people will instantly chop it out of their vocabularies. But maybe, just maybe, you can raise a little awareness. ...more

Look Down: I'm in the Wheelchair

I didn't send out our Holiday cards this year. There were about 400 million reasons, from my hand cramping while trying to write your address to me just being lazy. Preserve the Garden's Bounty: Make Your Own Vegetable Powders

One of my favorite ways to preserve the garden's bounty is by dehydrating vegetables (or fruit) until they are completely dry and all moisture is gone, then pouring them into the blender to create a powder.Technically neither the tomato nor the jalapeno are vegetables. Technically, both are fruits. I can stretch my imagination enough to accept that a tomato is a fruit but I cannot make myself believe that a jalapeno is a fruit....more

Why Are So Many People Still Smoking?
