Take one mum… one Chipmunk… and the ups and downs of life living with autism. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad – often completely off-topic!
As the single-parent of a child with high-functioning autism – and as an adult with the same condition – I have extensive experience to draw on as far as special educational needs are concerned. Over the last two years, I have had to become a self-appointed autism advocate: Blogging, making valuable contacts – and learning to appreciate the little victories!
Before becoming my son’s full-time carer, I was studying for my nursing degree. I made it to my final year before my son’s needs became evident. He is now known to have various physical disabilities, as well as the autism, and needs much input to fulfill his potential.
Away from the SEN arena, I am a keen (recently published) writer. I’m a self-taught natural light photographer, in the process of setting up my business and becoming fully self-employed. This is a huge step outside of my comfort zone!
I also make time to focus on my writing and editing skills, both on my own websites and in my work as a freelance writer. I also now write for the online parenting magazine Brew Drinking Thinkings. I am their Autism and SEN Parenting Writer and contribute several articles a month to this publication.
