Get Over Your Fear of Free Weights

I've enjoyed working out at home for a while now. I don't have to worry about crowds or what I look like. I don't even have to wear clothes. I did weight training at home with what we had in the house, but I wanted to lift heavier and branch out to different exercises. So after four weeks, I forced myself to enter the free weight zone at the gym. It was really hard at first. I felt like a flopping fish out of water. It took me a good two weeks of going almost every day before I started to feel more comfortable. ...more

My Favorite Power Foods and Healthy Snacks

I've always been a calorie counter but lately I'm trying to pay more attention to the make up of those calories.  When I don't, I come up short in protein, calcium and fiber and too high in sugars and random carbohydrates of little to no significant nutritional value.  When you focus on a calorie max AND the composition of those calories it forces you to make different decisions about what you eat.  I started this in January.  I knew I wouldn't be exercising for at least two months after surgery and thought it would be a good habit to get into.  I do not hi...more

Spring Dresses I Had to Have

I might have gone a little crazy, but I never expected that I would find so many dresses I liked this season. I used to hate dresses, and I have a bunch of dresses in my closet I haven't even popped the tags on … but that's all changing now. Simply put, I love dresses! They can be casual. They are comfortable and easy. It's all one piece, so you don't have to coordinate a top and bottom. These spring dresses are all leggings-friendly, too, so I can wear them year round. It takes me a while to come around to certain things … but once I do, I'm all in. ...more

Slow and Easy Crock Pot Beef Stew

Any recipe that includes wine always somehow seems too fancy for me so I'm pretty sure that I would not have made this on my own but for most "normal" people this is actually a pretty easy recipe.  We prepped and threw everything in the inner crock pot dish on a Sunday and left in in the refrigerator overnight.  On Monday morning before work we put the dish in the crock pot, turned it on and then we didn't have to worry abo...more

Am I a Food Snob?

On Saturday night we went to Ali Baba Restaurant.   It's on this random street next to a liquor store.  There is a bar across the street and no other restaurant in sight.  It doesn't offer much in the way of ambiance but I love it that it's in our neighborhood.  We don't have to drive downtown and hunt or pay for parking and they serve Naan bigger then the size of my head fresh out of the oven.  The food is delicous and the portions are generous.   We had an authentic Mediterranean Halal food experience right in our backyard.  I honestly had no c...more

That Day We Spent 10 Hours Chasing Waterfalls

twin fallsThe first stop was Twin Falls.  It was still pretty early and we knew it wasn't going to be a long walk so we kept our flip flops on.  It was fine but half way through I wish we'd changed.  It was so beautiful and so quiet.  It was the perfect start on our journey to Hana. the three bears...more

I posted this pic on Instagram and got 17 likes. That's a lot of likes for me.  I normally don't get enough likes to group it together so that it says 17 likes.  You know what I mean?  I usually only have enough so that each one is listed individually.  Anyways....more
