A Breezy Kind of Type A Personality

So I have spent my life assuming that I’m pretty breezy. You know, not letting things get to me, get me down, or really even noticing most of what goes on. Because being oblivious and being breezy sometimes are interchangeable, I’m not sure if you knew that.   Anyway. I pretty much thought this until a few years ago, when CB came into the picture on his actual breezy, patient horse, and started referring to me as Type A....more

Pregnancy: Weirdness and Wonder

So I haven’t done a lot of blogging about this whole baby thing, and that's been intentional. Mainly because you guys didn’t start coming here to read all about BABIES, because I know from experience that, if babies aren’tactually in your body’s wheelhouse at this very moment…who cares? But then I started hearing from some of you that you’re either pregnant, a new mom, or hoping to be soon – and I realized that I needed to stop censoring myself and just write. Because this here blog isn’t just about my underpants; it’s about my life....more

Getting Married in 5 Days Apparently Makes You Crazy.

So, for weeks now people have been commenting on how calm I seem leading up to the wedding. That I don’t seem stressed at all and I’m the picture of a cool and collected bride. I mean, I’m paraphrasing, but that’s basically the gist. Uh, don’t sound so shocked, EVERYONE, I don’t understand how you’d expect me to be any other way! However, I think the calm exterior is my way of shielding people I love from the insanity that lurks just beneath the surface....more

Tips on How Not to be a Lunatic for Your Wedding

Since we began planning our wedding about 9 months ago, I’ve run into the normal ups and downs of what most women experience during the course of this process: lots of input on everything from what my veil that I’m not wearing should look like, to “helpful” advice from people not even invited. This is all par for the course, expected, and frankly, not really something I spend too much time thinking about. Basically because I’m highly evolved and above petty thoughts about an event that will last approximately 8 hours. Hahaha no, let’s get real....more

Re-thinking love and romance.

When I was younger, I had romantic notions about what love was. I mean, they weren’t so much my notions as they were the notions of Nora Ephron and any movie that Julia Roberts was in (except, like, the one she was in with Nick Nolte and that other one where she dressed up like an old timey lady.) Basically, if you were holding a stereo up over your head and playing tremendous 80s love songs, or exchanging witty banter with your best guy friend who didn’t know he loved you until you took off your glasses, you were speaking my love language. ...more

And then I became the sixth or seventh Kardashian.

So last night was my hair and makeup trial for the wedding, you guys, and apparently I’ve been doing hair and makeup wrong for pretty much, well, my whole life? Or at least from late teens onward. Before then, I think I pretty much nailed it.   Anyway, I learned quite a few tips and tricks, some that I’ll share with you all now because I’m altruistic like that. Here we go:  ...more

Top 5 Best and Worst Candies for Halloween

I think I’ve just about aged out of the period in my life where I’m deciding what I have to be for Halloween and, instead, am deciding how close to Halloween it’s appropriate to start buying candy in bulk “for the kids who might come to our door to trick or treat.”   Also, the other day some co-workers started laying down bets that I won’t be able to “say no to free food and/or candy” three months or less prior to my wedding, as I said I would.  At first I was offended and then I was quietly proud that I’m known for something...more

12 Things Not to Freak Out About While Planning Your Wedding

So as you all know, we’re in the midst of wedding planning. Which, if we’re being honest, is the equivalent to becoming bipolar overnight because you’re both exhilarated and terrified – excited to be marrying this great guy who totally gets you, but terrified that the Wedding Police will show up at your door to tell you that you’re doing it all wrong. ...more

Parenting 101 from someone raising a cat

So, CB and I spent the weekend on a lake in the middle of New York state with some friends and their kids. And every time we are around parents and their children for longer than about an hour, we are struck by two competing emotions. The first is OH MY GOD THESE KIDS ARE SO CUTE AND THEY LOVE US SO MUCH WE’RE GOING TO KILL IT AS PARENTS. And the second is OH MY GOD HOW WILL WE EVER BE PARENTS. And I gotta tell you, the second one yells really loud! ...more

The Ya-Ya Sisterhood just took their clothes off to hug.

So, I think I have to stop mind-planning my wedding for a while because I just came across an article where they were talking about the hip new thing for brides. And it gave me such a flop sweat, anxiety-inducing mental scare that I immediately shut down the internet and tried to time-travel back to when I didn’t know how to use my brain to form words. Bridal Party Boudoir Shots, you guys. ...more
