Saving for College with T. Rowe Price

"After becoming more familiar with what they have to offer, I'm excited to get started, to start SOMEWHERE (because honestly, isn't the thought of saving thousands of dollars completely daunting?!).I breathed a sigh of relief when I learned that you could start with as little as $50 a month. I can do that. I could even do that PER child. Not only that, but anyone can contribute... aunts, uncles, grandparents. What do they need with another toy when that money could go towards their education instead and provide a lasting gift?...more

Preparation and Freedom ~ T. Rowe Price’s 529 College Savings Plan

"The best way I can provide my son with the freedom he needs to learn and create is to set up his environment with options… and then let him go.As he gets older, preparation and freedom will be just as important as they were to that itty bitty explorer. We can set him up for success in so many ways: emotionally, socially, educationally and financially. If we take the time to prepare, he will have the freedom to make choices when he becomes a young man. (As much as I don’t want to think about that… I know it will come so quickly.)...more

Loaded Baked Potato Dip (and Kettle Brand Chips!)

One of my favorite things to make for parties or just for days I'm hanging out watching football games are dips. Dips are so versatile and it seems like almost everyone likes them. I mean, who doesn't enjoy dipping a crunchy chip into a deliciously creamy dip? I came up with this Loaded Baked Potato Dip to go with Kettle Brand Chips, which is one of my all time favorite brand of chips....more

Cheddar Mashed Potatoes with Bacon and Apples

Thanksgiving is a mere days away now, and if you are like me, you probably know what you are making. But I am going to urge you to rethink your mashed potatoes -- seriously. For me, they tend to be almost an afterthought -- the thing I make because I have to. But mashed potatoes? They really don't need to be an afterthought. In fact, they can be truly spectacular without a lot of effort -- like in this easy (yes, easy) Cheddar Mashed Potatoes with Bacon and Apples dish....more

Individual Chicken Pot Pies

Since Michael Symon's recipes are so great, I just had to make another one yourself I've been craving pot pies ever since buying these little bowls, so I gave his a try, making a few adjustments here and there to make the recipe easier and to make individual portions. I used rotisserie chicken, but this would also be great with leftover turkey as well. This dish was a huge hit (Shawn especially loved the little onions) and one that I'll be making again....more

Turkey-Sage Gravy

I don't know about you, but I hate having to do anything at the last minute, especially when I've got a house full of hungry people. That's why I love this idea for making your gravy ahead of time. It's still got plenty of flavor, as it's made with sausage, and you can make it as thick or as thin as you like. Feel free to put this together a day or two beforehand, then just heat up in a sauce pot and add in a bit more water or stock to thin it out as you warm it up....more

Vegan Cheddar-Mashed Potatoes with Tempeh Bacon and Apple

I adore the challenge of taking a comfort classic and making it plant-strong. I was intrigued by a Nigella Lawson recipe. Her Cheddar-Mashed Potatoes with Bacon and Apples easily morphed into my rendition, Vegan Cheddar-Mashed Potatoes with Tempeh Bacon and Apples. This simple potato dish is the ultimate in vegan comfort, embellished with tart apple and tempeh bacon, and would be a perfect side dish for any veg-centric Thanksgiving table....more

Puff Pastry Cornucopias with Pumpkin-Coconut Mousse

I'm diving headfirst into dessert with Puff Pastry Cornucopias filled with Pumpkin-Coconut Mousse. They're made by wrapping store-bought puff pastry – every chef's secret weapon – around ice cream cones to create a characteristic cornucopia shape. After a quick bake in the oven, the cones are removed, revealing perfectly puffed pastry. But the edible fun doesn't end there…...more

Decorating with Shutterfly

"The first things I ordered from Shutterfly were a few of their canvas prints. These pieces are amazing. It’s always so surreal to see my photographs turned into an actual piece of art. I used three different nature-inspired prints to create this look. Each of these prints has special meaning to me, and I can remember exactly where I was when I took each one. I think this would be a perfect way to remember a special moment in your life, especially one shared with your family and friends."...more
