lessons from the rain

Things I've learned since moving to the Pacific Northwest: - your kids demand to play at the park even when it's wet (and you buy this shammy to wipe off the swings at a moment's notice). - you grill on the barbeque in the pouring rain partially covered by the patio and a rain jacket. - you start wearing fleeces and Birkenstock's to school pick-up even though you swore you'd never be ...more

working girl (without the big hair)

First off, I want to explain why I've been a little MIA lately. It's exciting news and a change for our family that's been really great, albeit slightly stressful and busy. I am now working part-time as a design associate for Pottery Barn ....more

photo shoot on the farm

We spent part of our Christmas break with David's family in his home town of El Centro, California. While we were there, David's family arranged for a family friend to come take some pictures of us. We don't have hardly any pictures of our family since we had Louisa so I'm really glad that we finally have some of our family with her in it!...more

WHO AM I?

Several people have e-mailed me after writing this post and this one. Many of you have reached out to share your own stories and tell me I'm not alone. Many of you shared advice for what helped you get through those times, shared fears for your own futures and offered your love and support as we go through this together ....more

growing up: lou at 20 months

I wanted to do a little update on Miss Lou. She's 20 months (gah!) and as cute as ever. We're a little obsessed with her ....more

chicken noodle soup with lemon

With flu season upon us, I made a big batch of my homemade lemon chicken noodle soup and it was good for the soul (ha - I had to!). I make my own noodles because they are 1000 times better than store-bought and, while they're not exactly "quick", I do think they're really easy and the process is actually super enjoyable. Maybe I have problems but I love me some comfort food! ...more

metaphors + mental musings

I took this selfie after nursing Louisa in the car outside of REI when she was just a week old. She was so bitsy and I was on a huge high from giving birth and finally having this sweet baby girl, safe and sound. I felt so pretty and good in this picture ....more

sweet + sour chicken with sesame green beans

You know what I can't stand? [Uh oh, I feel a rant coming on.] I see so many delicious looking entrees on Pinterest or in cookbooks that I want to make, but then I feel a little bugged that I have to think of a green vegetable side dish that will pair well with it. I try really hard to always include some sort of green veggie with our meals and I really prefer something that "stands on its own" ...more

honeybunch, sugarplum, pumpy-umpy-umpkin

Can we talk for a minute about this fat little baby cakes and how I want to go back in time and ask her to stay this little fuzzy-headed, chunky monkey forever, knowing full well that she will grow up way too fast? I wouldn't mind holding her again at 2 a.m. with my exhausted body as long as I can get that new baby smell back in my arms and hear those sweet, gurgling coos as I nurse her in the ...more
