Being Intentional... Again

I already wrote a post titled Being Intentional, thus the title of this post, Being Intentional... Again.  In my first post, I started out with this sentence:There’s a lot of things I need to be more intentional about… mothering, eating well, exercising, bible study, etc....more

Why I'm Not Forever 21

My friend Jessica is going to take family portraits for us this weekend.  So I, of course, was on the hunt for the perfect outfit.  I've found it's easier for me to buy a really cute new outfit and then rummage around in the boys closets to find something that matches me.What?  It's true....more

Helicopter Parents

I am the first to admit when my kids are out of control.  Really.  I am.  I'll usually roll my eyes, let out a deep sigh or an "Oh my word!" and quickly remove myself and my kids from the situation... after I've threatened them with their lives, that is.Sunday, however, was not one of those days....more

Donate Life

My sister is a registered nurse.  She got a job at an organization called One Legacy about 2 or 3 years ago.  All I knew for a while was that she helped somewhere in the process of getting organs from patients who were declared brain dead, to patients that were waiting in desperate need.  She deals with the "getting" end of the business instead than the "giving" side, so you can imagine she has some really uplifting stories for the Thanksgiving table.  Not......more

Family Night: Goodbye Summer!

I was looking through my blog a few weeks ago and I realized that I was a way better mom before I had three kids.Truth.I've heard it from a lot of mommies.  Two is doable, manageable, one-on-one team formations.  Three?  Three throws you over the edge.  I have heard though that if you can get to three and survive, then four, five, six, and so on, are no big deal.  Just throw 'em on the pile!  (Not that I will be testing out that theory.  Rest assured, I will not.  But that's what I've heard.)...more

Goodbye Borders

When my husband and I went out last week (for the second time alone since baby #3 has been born) we stopped in at Borders for their giant closing sale.  And you know what's sadder than my husband and I only getting two nights alone in the last nine months?  Borders closing!...more

Why my tummy is so rumbly

No, I'm not Pooh Bear.  But it feels like last week that I was standing in the back of Babies R Us amongst Pooh Bear bedding, picking out exactly what I wanted my first baby to rest his precious little head on.And now his precious little head is about to be filled up with kindergarten knowledge.  And I'm crying now.  When did he get this big?  How has this happened?...more

I'm a Liar: I Tell My Kids Big Whoppers

There. I said it. I'm a liar. I cannot be trusted. You'll never know when I'm telling the truth. Because I lie. Well, at least to my kids I do. I'm not talking about the little white lies that everyone tells. You know what I'm talking about. Things like, "I don't have a quarter for the gumball machine" when your purse is so full of change that it leaves a dent in your shoulder due to the sheer weight of the coinage inside. ...more

I remember being 11 or 12 and watching TV and seeing a commercial for thirtysomething.  Remember that show?  It was on in the late eighties/early nineties.  I never watched it.  I was too young.  The only thing I remember is watching a commercial and thinking, What a dumb show.  Who would want to watch a show all about old people? Today I realized, those "old people" are my people.  I'm not sure when or how it happened, but those are my people.  ...more

The Marriage Ref

Is that show "The Marriage Ref" still on TV?  I just googled it.  It is.Well, I have an ongoing argument with Geric that should probably be settled by The Marriage Ref.  But since I don't have time to wait for Tom Papa (Really?  Papa is really his last name?) to approve my argument as TV-worthy, I thought I would just ask you all, my faithful blog readers.  I know there are a lot of you out there, so weigh in.  Even if we've never met, all the better because your opinion won't be skewed by my good looks or my charming personality....more
