Cold-weather Italian sausage soup

I know, it doesn't sound appetizing, but I assure you it is delicious. I know everyone is doing a lot of entertaining around this time of year. Being that we are around 10 hours from the east coast and 5 from the west our guests aren't just popping in for dinner. As of late the question has weighed on my mind. I just read Les Etats-Unis, un pays ingouvernable ? in Le Monde and it raises more questions. Would the Pères fondateurs even recognize this as the country of their making? Have our ambitions and so called progress taken away the happiness we were set to pursue in the first place?
