Chocolate Coconut Love Bites

On Valentine’s Day 2013 my dad turns 90. He’s a gracious 90, easygoing and content. Visiting him in the nursing home where he’s been living for almost a year is touching. While it’s hard for the residents to relate easily to one another, they all seem to relate to music....more

Celebrating One Year of Blogging & 150 recipes!

Just one year ago it seemed like a good idea to start a blog. It didn't matter that I didn't know what a blog was. I figured I'd find out by starting one. I googled how to start a blog and jumped right in. Positive feedback fueled the fire, fanned the flames and sent me tumbling along from post to post. I was possessed, until I hit the 100 post mark and then I slowed down....more

Bagel, Lox, Goat Cheese, and Roasted Vegetables

Giving birth is not a picnic, but it has its rewards. I didn't have cravings while pregnant, but just after bringing my daughter into the world, I wanted to celebrate with bagel, lox and cream cheese, from Beauties, of course. It's hard to improve on perfection, but tempting to come up with a new variation on the theme....more

Asian Mushrooms and Brown Basmati Rice - I'd serve to Justin Bieber

I don't really tweet. It's hard to see the point of saying something in 140 characters that you could flesh out properly in 450 words and several photos. Of course it's a worthy skill to be succinct, but to make a go of Twitter, you have to be able to express yourself in show-stoppingly concise sound bites. Either that--or you need the caché of  Justin Bieber, with over 21 million Twitter followers....more

Fresh Sweet Corn Creamy Soup - Velvety Smooth!

Hey Ma! Look what I did with just one organic chicken!

Seems like a good idea to eat organic meat, right? The usual complaint is that it costs too much. I don't usually talk prices, but this chicken was $18 and change. It hails from La Ferme St-Vincent's Atwater Market location. I got the royal treatment for no reason at all. The butcher expertly deboned the major cuts and made lots of important decisions when he noticed me dithering. Two meals and two full jars of organic chicken stock later--I'd say that organic chicken is looking reasonable....more

Treat Your Palate Biscotti

Any occasion where food is served piques my interest. Peggy Ann Turner staged a wonderful art exhibit and baked her own treats for visitors. As usual, I asked for the recipe, explaining how it would be shared. Lucky for us, Peggy Ann readily agreed. These biscotti taste unique. They have a sweetness that demands your attention, a perfect texture and a lovely appearance....more

Blame it on my brother. I was minding my own business, managing a balancing act with multiple roles, and along comes Eric with an inspirational suggestion that got me thinking.
