Pina Colada Smoothie

I'm sure people in Wisconsin will view this as a comedic performance, but it's cold here in the South.  (Michigan residents are also laughing now, I'm sure)  Anything below 40 degrees may as well be Arctic in my little corner of the world and I'm missing hot, muggy summer days where smoothies made of frozen pineapple are a must every night.  So, about 10 minutes before typing this, I was sitting in front of a fireplace, with my feet on the hearth, drinking a Pina Colada Smoothie and dreaming about St....more

Baked Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal (Vegan!!)

I wanted something decadent yesterday in the worst way! Something sweet and delicious, but all we had was crunchy peanut butter, so I ate some.  With a spoon. Straight out of the jar. Ever done that?  (you should!)...more

Margherita Sandwiches (Vegan!)

Tomatoes are one of my favorite things to grow and eat.  I love how they look, how they smell, how they taste and how abundant they are in my part of the country.  I'd just mentioned to Dave that I'd be glad to get a "real" tomato once summer comes blazing in because whatever the things they have in the grocery stores down here in the winter, are not "real" tomatoes to a Southern girl.  And then I walked in the Fresh Market and they had some heirlooms sitting on the front counter and I may have made a tiny noise of excitement when I saw them based on the sweet greeters face.&...more

Arne Duncan on those Pesky White Suburban Moms

"UPDATE":  There are a growing number of brown-skinned mothers and fathers speaking out about Arne Duncan's extrememly divisive comments.  Here you'll find the latest one from a different perspective that points out his slyly hidden racist remarks toward brown-skinned families, as well.  After all, it's not only "white" mothers who live in the suburbs, although Arne may have missed that memo.  ...more

Parent arrested for speaking out during Common Core meeting

Mr. Robert Small attended a Q & A session at his child's school in Maryland.  The concerned parents were told that questions would only be considered if they were written down and turned in BEFORE the meeting, which is how many school board meetings across the country about Common Core have been going.  The board members then weed out the questions they don't want to answer.  There are many complaints that the questions that ARE answered are reworded and do not include all the information that parents want answered about their childrens education....more

Gun Control is an Illusion

I'm a huge proponent of the 2nd amendment.  Just period.  I think a human being who hasn't broken the law has every right to defend themselves, including with a gun, if necessary.  Again, period. ...more

Truth and Co-dependency

My grandfather died of cirrhosis of the liver.  One of my uncles, that same grandfather's son, was an alcoholic.  Both my brothers are addicts/alcoholics. Actually, my oldest brother died this year and you can read about that here if you'd like.  I have at least 5 cousins who are addicts/alcoholics....more
