My Story on Choice: Reproductive Choice is About Infertility

Today is Blog for Choice Day, and the charge for bloggers is to share our stories on choice: It’s our personal stories that change hearts and minds about the importance of always protecting a woman’s right to choose. That’s why this year we’re asking you to share your story about why you’re pro-choice. My story on choice revolves not around abortion, but rather, infertility, as you may ...more

Heads Up on Blog for Choice Day

January 22, 2013 is Blog for Choice day.  I plan to post, and I wanted to share, in case you were interested, too.  Reproductive freedom is a major and crucial part of infertility treatment. From the site: It’s our personal stories that change hearts and minds about the importance of always protecting a woman’s right to choose. That’s why this year we’re asking you to share your story about why ...more

Saying Good-Bye to Santa and Rudolph

We said good-bye to our stuffed Santa and Rudolph this morning.  Yesterday, Monkey helped me take down the tree and the rest of the Christmas decorations.  (I knew that if I didn't do it now, it'd be another month, and I hate dreading the take down.)  We talked a lot about the holiday, and how it was over, and how Monkey should play with Santa and Rudolph for one more day, and sleep with them for ...more

Christmas Crafts

Monkey and I had some fun making Christmas crafts.  Pinterest is pretty great for searching for ideas.  I figured handrpint ornaments would be appropriate for a 2.5 year old, and they turned out pretty well. I found a spiced salt dough recipe online, and I'd say making the dough was Monkey's favorite part.  The dough still smells really good, though the ornaments did puff up a bit.  I ...more

Vegan Holiday Baking

Moose is still definitely sensitive to dairy and eggs...I tried pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, only to have him up every hour, all night long, 24 hours later.  I was good the entire meal, except for the pie...mmm pie...pumpkin is definitely my favorite. I don't think I'll be cheating again though, any time soon.  As much as I love pumpkin pie, it just isn't worth it.  And so, today, I tried my ...more

Elf-Capades, Week 1

We're having a lot of fun with our Elf on the Shelf, Max.  I like to think that I'm doing it with a good balance of nothing too extravagant or crazy--why make messes I have to clean up?!--and some fun.  It takes me all of about 30 seconds to move him to a new place each night--the hard part is just thinking up creative new places for him that aren't within reach of Monkey...don't want to tempt ...more

Holiday Traditions

Monkey is at a really great age for the holidays.  Starting with Halloween, he loved going on a hay ride, picking out a pumpkin, wearing his costume, and decorating his pumpkin.  He is pretty shy, so trick-or-treating was just okay, but he was all about the candy part of it...he just didn't love talking to our neighbors.  He had a little bit of trouble understanding that once you decorate your ...more

An Update: Part Two, on Moose

Moose, howerver, is not very mobile yet, and we're pretty thankful for that!  I'm enjoying the stationary baby days for as long as I can get them, especially knowing this is my last baby!  Moose can roll over from tummy to back, since about 3 months, but he doesn't do it very often.  He's more likely to fuss than to roll himself over, no matter how long I leave him to try to work it out.  Since ...more

An Update: Part 1, on Monkey

Somehow, I ended up with a 5-month old and a 2 1/2 year old.  I'm not quite sure where the time went! Caolan is amazing in his development.  Two is a challenging age, but it is really such a lot of fun, too.  He is quite the little person now, and it is astonishing how we can hold full-length conversations with him, and we can tell his is processing and thinking about so much.  His language ...more

Moose's Birth Story

J wrote Monkey's birth story for me, and I found that I liked his perspective. After much prompting for him to do the same for Moose, he was finally able to find the time to write it, and I was able to add in some of my own reflections and revisions (he wasn't always accurate, but I fixed that!): Moose's birthday started out very similar to Monkey's; at 4AM Gina informed me that she was having contractions of the ...more
