An Open letter to my 4 year old self #Rapecultureiswhen

Too many children have been or are in  the position of being molested in our country. It is a sad state of affairs, yes a lot of it has to do with the way our society perceives women and how we perceive ourselves. As a little girl that has been in this situation, none of that matters at the time, but it needs to change. What matters is that we build our little girls up. So not to fear opening up about it, to not fear saying NO! ...more

Do All Men Hate Grocery Shopping? A trip to Costco with Ryan

Me, with my list in hand, and him with his fueled hatred for grocery shopping, we enter the world of Costco. As I flash my Costco card at the entrance, I glance over at Ryan, I see his face growing pale and clammy. "Come on babe" I reach my hand out to grab his. I am waiting for it; his over exaggerated body language and pointed sighs. He wants me to know that he is here under protest. "Just make the best of it, try and have fun," I tell him.

He lets out an inflated groan as we move into the store. He hates being here, and he is going to pull out every tactic he knows to prove it to me. I am excited; I love Costco, and I am going to go through every isle, he knows it too, and it is written all over his face. He is pushing the buggy, which, by the way, is tactic number one. As I reach out to grab something off the shelf the buggy lightly touches my hip. "Oh, sorry babe. I was looking at food that we actually need. I didn't see you there". Then a quick subject change "We should go that, way," as he points to the cheese section ( his favorite section by the way ). At the cheese section, Ryan is taken over by something, it is a strange force that takes over his whole entire body. I notice that he isn't comparing size, weight or even looking at the price, his only concern is the age of the cheese. Note: The only time this occurs is when he is standing in any cheese section, the force is strong! Tactic number two: Without even noticing and as, I am grabbing a huge 20lb bag of flour to put in the cart, him and the cart have disappeared! I spot him now riding the cart like a 9-year-old boy up and down the isle. "Ryan!" I grunt out, mostly because I am holding a 20lb bag of floor. Here is where he gets super charming and gives me the puppy dog eyes, "What?, I am just trying to have fun, you told me to try and have fun." It comes out of his mouth with a little too much charm sometimes. I am still holding the bag of flour. He now sulks his way over to me, leaving the cart far enough away that I have to walk over to put it in, just to make his point. We have only been in the store for 5 minutes. ...more

Spreading Rumours, a Form of Bullying?

We all gossip, I am aware of that. I too have been guilty of spreading a rumour or two, so believe me when I say I am not writing this atop my high horse.  Quite Honestly I am writing this because I hope to not only change my ways, but give some insight to the pain caused when people spread rumours, essentially, lies. ...more
