The Benefit Betties!!

So I've been up to a LOT of stuff lately, from hooping, to performing, to learning belly dance, to teaching Burlesque, to having a blast at Hottie Hoop Camp. But when I found out about a group of fabulous ladies doing great work in Houston, I just knew I had to take one more thing under my belt ....more

The New Pope..."We'll see".

So a new pope was elected yesterday. The new guy, Pope Francis is known as a humble guy, lives in a small apartment (gave his fancy residence to a poor mission), cooks his own meals, took the bus to work, cared for AIDS patients, baptised the children of single mothers and called out priests who wouldn't, and abandoned much of the hoity toityness of being the head Catholic dude in charge in Argentina, where he's from. Pretty cool, and pretty ...more

Sorry Pope, not enough for me.

FIRST OF ALL: Yes, I believe in God. Some days I believe Jesus is his son, some days I don't. Some days I believe God has a hand in every day life of humans, some days I don't. I don't have all the answers, and I don't trust anyone who thinks they do, religious or not. I believe in science too. And I have NEVER ripped atheism, and don't intend to. So don't rip on me either ....more

Holidays are over, time to get back to YOU!

Another Christmas season has come and gone. On one hand, I'm totally sad, because Christmas means time in Louisiana with family and friends, looking at Christmas lights, having an excuse to buy and eat lots of treats at World Market, the list goes on. But now it's January, and with a new year comes new attitudes. As you know, I'm a hoop dance instructor in the Spring/The Woodlands/Houston area. What's hoop dance again? ...more

End of year wrap up

Nothing like the end of the year to make you look back on it. It's been a crazy one. Sometimes good crazy and sometimes bad crazy.  Last week one of my parent's very good friends in Germany passed away. We just saw him earlier in the year, which I'm grateful for. And between what happened to Mickey, and the fact that 6 friends lost a parent, and a friend from high school died, it's hard to see the awesome things ...more

Get on the bus Gus: How Mitt could have won

The election is over, and this is likely the last thing I'm going to say about it. The guy I voted for won, and yes, I'm happy about that. I've voted democrat int he last 4 presidential elections, since I turned 18. I don't see that changing, unless my party loses its mind. THAT is why Mitt lost. People in his party started losing their minds (i.e, the Tea Party), and instead of being a big dog and saying, "y'all ...more

Hey autumn, hope I'm not too busy for you

I hang out with Husband a lot. I've realized that more recently, and sometimes I wonder if I should be branching out more, hanging out with other friends. I was talking about this the other night at a weekly pot luck dinner one of my BFFs holds. Then it dawned on me why. When Husband worked off shore, we would spend every moment of his days off together. I think I'm still trying to make up for that time we ...more

Holiday season: Bittersweet?

When Husband worked offshore, this time of year became almost a feared time of year. In the position he was in offshore, work typically ramped up towards the holidays, the worst possible time ever. Ever since Husband has started working in the office, this is not an issue for us, but I have dropped to my knees more than once to just thank the heavens that my guy is at home on Christmas morning ....more
