10 Inspirations for February NaBloPoMo

I started blogging primarily to write. Writing for me has always been therapeutic and a way to rediscover myself. I also like having readers comment, so that is why I am thankful for all of you! Back in November I attempted to do NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) with BlogHer. Well, November was a full-on month for me with the birth of my daughter, the hospitalization of that same little baby and then packing up to move from Manhattan to Brooklyn by the end of that month....more

#Zombiemoms Unite

Once upon a time, staying up til 4 clubbing and drinking enough illusion shakers to have a nasty hangover at work the next day was the kind of fodder me and my girlfriends laughed about the following week. Now, with 2 kids I know that if I am up all night this is not going to matter to them the next day. Chances are if one keeps me up during the night, the other is going to be full of beans the next day. There is no rest for the wicked or mothers....more

Every Parent's Worst Nightmare - part 2

It is a week exactly from when this all happened. It is also 8 days after I last saw Isla’s pediatrician. We had a well check today to make sure that she is thriving and putting on weight. She is not yet back up to birth weight, but she did put on 8 ounces in 8 days – 1 ounce per day is what doctor’s are looking for. She should be back at birth weight by early next week, 3 weeks after birth…not bad at all for a wee peanut....more

Every Parent's Worst Nightmare

I've told this story so many times since last week - to family, friends, doctors, nurses. It was hard at first to talk about this without crying, it is getting a little easier each time. But, I also feel very spent after retelling the details. So I decided to write out what happened, so that I can point people to this post if they want to read about what happened. I sat down and started writing this in hospital on Thursday once I'd finally had a little bit of sleep. The story is longer than I can handle writing in one go, so that is why it is split - not for dramatic effect....more

the day an earthquake changed a country

Today's NaBloPoMo prompt about favorite places has made me think of something I wrote months ago. Writing is therapeutic for me, I often like to sit down and just write freely as a way of acknowledging an issue. The following post is something I wrote back in March but never shared with anyone until now. I've also edited it a bit for context. ...more

Flu shot, should we or shouldn't we?

After the birth of my second child 11 days ago, the nurse asked whether our family had our flu shots for the upcoming winter season. It was suggested that we all get the shot in order to keep the nasty flu away from the newest member of our family....more
