Own Your Beauty: Mirror Mirror On The Wall

I am the product of a long line of body loathers. I grew up in a family where my body type was the subject of derision, and nicknamed "The Hellsten Curse".  My indoctrination began as a small child when I listened to my mother lament the long list of physical faults she saw in herself.  After which she would always apologise with the same words, "Sorry love, but you look like me".  A simple sentence that over time shaped the way I viewed myself.  ...more

Glitter Dreams & Dorothy Shoes

What would a Fabulous Friday be without some glitz and glam.  I refuse to believe that just because I'm over 30, that I am somehow beyond my sparkly years.  If I want to break out the glitter and make myself some killer, sparkly, red heels I'm going to do it, and stripper or drag queen comparisons be damned. You better brace yourself because today I am going to get all crafty on your arse. ...more

Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics

To stat or not to stat.  That is the question.  When I started blogging in July last year I never for a second believed that anyone would read my ramblings, especially not by choice.  I thought there would be at least a couple of pity reads from friends and family, but after week one they'd probably drop off and I'd be posting into the vacuum of space, and nobody can hear you sceam. ...more

Michelle VS The Brain Fog

I’ve been sitting here off and on for the past few hours trying to think of a topic to write about. Actually if I’m honest I have been sitting here trying to get my brain to form a single cohesive thought. Never mind making that thought into a sentence. Never mind getting my fingers to move in some sort of coordinated effort on the keyboard to form the words into something tangible. Never mind forgetting how to spell simple words like ‘and’, or even that ‘and’ is a word, or how to use it in a sentence. Brain fog strikes again, and I am lost for words once more. ...more

With Trolls becoming an increasingly prominent feature of the blogging landscape I thought it was time to shine a little light on these irritating creatures.   ...more

Hailstones, Hariy Legs and 'Arse Illnesses'.

Despite rumours to the contrary I'm still alive and kicking. Well maybe alive and sitting.  Lets go with, alive and breathing.  Well except when my body decides that breathing should become tricky.  Inhale.  Exhale.  Inhale.  Exhale......complex stuff apparently.  Maybe I should just go with existing, and continuing to swear and shake my fist at the universe.  ...more

Forget Me Not.

He should be eighteen But will remain forever nine The little boy with the laughing eyes And the mop of curly untameable hair Caught forever in endless days of childhood A chance word A song on the radio It catches me unaware Reopening a wound that has never fully healed My heart screams in pain And I am hurled once more upon the jagged rocks of memory. A phonecall in the night My sister's tears Her mumbled words Her grief rends the world I hold her tight Yet cannot touch her...more
