A Blog a Day--What Was I Thinking?

I'm blaming my daughter for this. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  She's the one who decided to take the National Novel Writing Month Challenge (otherwise known as NaNoWriMo.)  These daring souls attempt to produce a 50,000 word novel in 30 days.  She's quite capable of doing so, having written fan fiction of similar length. But where does that leave her mother? I feel that to be supportive I should also undertake a writing challenge this month, however I am not strong at either fiction or sustained long form storytelling....more

I Don't Want to Be a Humor Blogger

I have been writing, off and on, ever since high school. Even then I realized there was a major deficit in my work--I'm not funny, at least on paper.  In my high school  journalism class I was supposed to write a humor piece--it fell flat.  Same thing in my college writing classes. Jokes, gag lines, funny stories, even those I had successfully told in person, died on paper.  My plays were all dramas, my poems were all tragedies....more
