I Didn't Expect to Breastfeed My Daughter Until She Turned Three

Four years, nine months, two days, and about 11 hours. That’s how long I have breastfed my kids over my (and their) lifetime. And, I am finally (bittersweetly) done. If you would have told me before I had kids that I was going to nurse them beyond one year, I would have said, “Yeah right.” But here I am with a freshly weaned three year old. How in the world did that happen?...more

Food Philosophy Overhaul – Curing Picky Eaters

Raise your hand if you are a parent and your kids are picky eaters?  Yes?  No?  Sometimes?  Well, if your kids eat everything put in front of them and just love eating fruit and vegetables…well you’re either A) Super lucky or B) You’ve already got this whole food thing figured out and you can quit reading and go about your day now....more

Reading Spaces and Places – DIY Reading Nook

A couple of months ago when I finished our craft supplies center in our playroom, I was left with piles and piles of books with no where to put them.  You see, our little reading corner in our playroom had to be sacrificed in order to put in the craft center.  So, I decided I wanted to create reading spaces in various rooms in our house to not only encourage my kids to read, but to also have a place to store our hundreds of books!...more

When Parenting Styles Clash

I’ve recently been having some differencing of opinions with regards to parenting with my husband’s family. We all live in the same town, whereas my side of the family lives in another state. Being raised in a different way than my husband, I, of course, have my own style of parenting, and my own beliefs as to what I think is best for our kids. And his family, being raised in their own way, also has their own style of parenting and their own beliefs as to how children should be raised. I won’t say that either of us is right or wrong, we just have different opinions....more

Why is the pink one more expensive?

A couple of days ago a mom in one of my parenting Facebook groups posted that Lowe’s had some great children’s tool kits on sale.  So, I went down there to purchase one for each of my daughters.  When I got to the store, I saw that they had two different versions of the same tool kit.  One was blue and the other pink.  Other than the color difference, the tool kits were identical in every way.  Knowing my kids, and what they prefer, I picked up a blue one for Annalie and a pink one for Stella.  When I went to the checkout stand to pay for them, I was a little s...more

How To Use Nurse-Ins To Teach Breastfeeding Law

We’ve all heard it before or have watched it on the news: "Mother gets harassed for breastfeeding in public…” You would think that with all the research and studies that have come out in favor of breastfeeding and its benefits, society would be all for it. But yet again, these stories continue to exist. ...more

5 Reasons Why I Love to Run in the Morning

This morning my alarm went off way too early. The only thing I wanted to do was shut of my alarm and go back to sleep. It also didn't help that my 2-year-old had been awake since 4:30am. But without thinking too much about it, I got up, got dressed, laced up my sneakers and poured myself a large cup of motivation… er, I mean coffee. After downing my coffee and heading out the door, I started my run. Almost instantly I was reminded of why I do this. Why I choose to forgo that extra hour of sleep to go out and run 5 miles. Why I get up in the dark when everyone else is sleeping to sweat. Here are a few of my favorite things about early morning running. ...more

DIY Doll Storage & Organization

Having little kids (especially little girls) means having a lot of dolls.  I seriously don’t know how we accumulated so many.  Well, okay maybe I do.  Let’s see…Nana, birthdays, aunts, etc.  You get it.  People love giving little girls a new doll.  Top that off with the fact that my 4 year old does not play with dolls at all (unless it is some sort of superhero) and has given her little sister every single one she has been given and you’ve pretty much got an entire bedroom overtaken by dolls.  So, I had to figure out a solution for storing them....more

My Funniest Holiday Memory

Recently I was contacted by the lovely ladies at Patience Brewster, (she is an artist and illustrator of books, greeting cards, and a designer of Christmas ornaments and gifts) to share with my readers one of my favorite holiday memories, so sit back and enjoy this little story.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures, so I’m adding a few I found online to help you visualize my story....more
