Roger Ebert Challenged Us to Think About What Makes a Movie Great

RIP Roger Ebert: The Pulitzer Prize-winning movie critic, who wrote for the Chicago Sun-Times for more than 45 years, died on Thursday, April 4, at age 70, after a long struggle with cancer. Two days earlier, Ebert had announced he was taking a "leave of presence" from his job, writing: ...more

My Financial House of Halloween Horrors!

Every year I decorate my house for Halloween. With excitement I carve the pumpkin, string the goblin lights, hang the ghouls, set up the cemetery, and blow up the witch! It is the most wonderful time of the year for someone like me! ...more

The Myth of the Boogey Man: Arresting Mom for Unsupervised Play

Tammy Cooper is just like me; she lives on a quiet cul-de-sac and she lets her children ride their scooters along the neighborhood street. The only difference between this Mom and me is she was arrested for allowing her kids, ages six and nine, to play outside watching from “only a few feet away.” All it took was the judgment of one neighbor and a phone call to the police that has turned Tammy’s life upside down. ...more
That is insane to me. 1) how embarassing 2) who is it for someone to judge. It's hard to believe ...more

For the Love of Hockey! Give Our Volunteers Respect!

My children have a strong love for hockey and they look forward to it at the start of every September. They lace up their skates and hit the ice for hockey evaluations. Hockey evaluations are necessary to the sport to ensure your child is tiered on the right team so they have enough challenge, improve their skills, and guarantees they are not always that one player sitting on the bench. ...more
We, too, experienced similar situations, but in bowling. And then I've seen it recently when my ...more

Mountain Climbing Dreams

The past weekend did several small hikes in Canmore and came across several rock climbers on our journey. My littlest looked on with envy. He is always dreaming of the day that he will be climbing the side of a mountain. ...more

The Many Sparkling Shades of BlogHer Blue

One of the greatest gifts given to me was a bracelet that I received from my two closest friends on my graduation day from university. It was without their support I would have never finished my degree. I would have crumbled at defeat without their positive pep talks when the kids were sick and the chips looked like they were tumbling down against me. ...more

Being Ten Again

I discovered when I return home to visit my Mother for an extended time that I revert to my ten-year old self. In the past week I have gotten accustomed to my Mother making my coffee, baking my favorite treats, and the biggest perk is a late night trip to the dairy bar for ice cream with sprinkles. ...more

I Have Been Busted by the Bad Luck Detective!

Suzie Ivy the Bad Luck Detective has challenged fellow bloggers to share ten things about themselves. As I sit ready to write this my palms are sweaty, there is a big light looking down on me, and I feel chained to the computer. My heart is racing because what I am to tell you is bad. Very Bad! ...more

A Springtime Wish

As the snow begins to melt and the sun begins to shine several thoughts run across my mind. One is the inevitable ten pounds from winter hibernation and begin to focus on all of the things I hate about me. I am guilty about making jokes about my muffin-tops, dingle dangles, and wobbly bites all of the things I wish I could airbrush away. ...more
@yankee rancher It's very good! We have to laugh it keeps us sane :)more

A Distant Memory and a Pair of Red Pumps

Sometimes when I slip on my red pumps they take me back to a different person, time, and place. If these shoes could take me back into the past I wonder would I do things a little different? Would I be wiser to the games of the heart? ...more
