Mom & Pop Shop Goes Big City

When I was a lot younger I used to wake up in the middle of the night, irrationally stressed out by anything and everything from noises outside of my window, to school projects and homework, to who acted like they didn't like me at school the day prior, to remembering the new solo I had to compete with in a week. And I'd almost never get myself to fall back asleep. I never really understood why it would happen to me but I remember that I would always pretend like it wasn't because it felt pretty weird and abnormal ....more

The Media Kit Nightmare

Yesterday I decided to put my big boy pants on and take the training wheels off my blog's bike. For two and a half years I've managed to put off doing such a thing because I'm pretty lazy and also I just don't really enjoy the big boy pants side of blogging. Also known as the whole "put on a business suit and shine on the hard face until people take you seriously" charade ....more

Hello Denver

Oh hey there, I made it to my blog today and I'll call that a victory even though I haven't finished typing out this first sentence. Real talk for just a second, you wouldn't have wanted me here yesterday. I decided somewhere during my morning shower, around when I squeezed conditioner in my hands and then applied it to my face, that yesterday just wasn't going to be the one ....more

Talkin' About Jewels (and maybe giving some away)

I'm really weird when it comes to jewelry and by that I mean that my skin is really weird and doesn't allow me to hop aboard all of the awesome costume jewelry trains that roll by. If it's not a precious metal, my skin almost instantly rejects the piece and I'm left with a pretty embarrassing and horribly unpleasant red, bumpy mark. My mom always said this little quirk is a blessing in disguise because it means any guys I date have to buy me the real stuff or they'll get caught as soon as whatever it is they bought me is on my body for longer than a couple hours ....more

Distance Makes The Heart Grow Crazy

They say "distance makes the heart grow fonder".Well, with all due respect to whoever "they" is (which I'm sure I could find via a quick Google search but for the purpose of this post let's just pretend we have no way of knowing who "they" is) but I have reason to believe that "they" might have been a little like me after a few glasses of wine and forgot to finish their sentence. Or maybe they were talking about their heart's feelings towards a food item or a special product. Either way, I'm here today to overanalyze this saying because I've come to realize that there's a time and place for this saying and there's also a time and place where this saying needs a little adjusting. For instance, distance makes the heart grow fonder:- When you've been away from Black Bean Deli and you haven't gotten your Media Noche fix in over 3 days ....more

The Dark Hole

I feel like I need to begin this post by apologizing for my insane mental absence lately; my anxiety disorder has been a real son of a bitch these last few weeks and it has been consuming the time my brain usually spends here thinking of (what I consider to be) worthwhile things to write about. It's been as if I was living in a Mario Kart game and every single mushroom, banana peel, turtle shell, ghost, etc., I passed on my drive around the track were triggers I couldn't avoid. And the track I've been driving around might as well be named "the track of hell" because it's been one hell of a dark hole, easily the darkest I've slipped down in a very long time. The dark hole is a scary and destructive place to find yourself in because it's the final point of losing that last bit of control you were holding on to, and it's then you realize that you no longer have a grasp on this horrendous disorder that you've been battling for longer than you care to remember ....more

Summertime Happiness

Living in Florida means one thing during the summer and that one thing is that it's hot as the devil's toenail. On some of these summer days it gets so relentlessly hot there's absolutely nothing else we can do but toss some frosty brew in a cooler and head straight to the pool for some relaxing and a whole lot of relief. Said relief tends to get a bit tricky when we're talking bottled beer because most of the bottles at the store today are glass and the people in the front office of my apartment complex can sniff out a glass bottle at the pool from a mile away ....more

IWYP By: Whitney Ellen

After my little Instagram teaser yesterday, I'm hoping some of you aren't disappointed in what you're seeing above. This month I went a little more serious and inspirational because I was just feeling it and lately I've been in need of an extra reminder to live fearless,...more
