What is Important Right. Now.

I have been conflicted about writing about what happened in Connecticut on Friday.  So many have been so quick on the trigger to put out their opinions and I didn't want to be that one who threw out some fodder before really taking the time to think and process exactly what has happened.  At first I thought to myself that I just had to put something out there.  I needed somewhere for my anger to go.  I needed an outlet.  Then I made the mistake of getting on my social media sites and found my anger going somewhere I didn't really want it to go....more

My Day With Johnny Depp

I think the thing to do is to enjoy the ride while you are on it.  ~Johnny DeppThere are times in our lives when an opportunity presents its self and for some reason, despite the screams from your inner self, you just cannot convince yourself to ignore it.  Sometimes, these opportunities end up turning into complete disappointments.  Other times, these opportunities turn into something that you had never believed could happen to you.  Luckily for me, I was able to experience the latter....more

Raising Girls

Raising girls scares the living shit out of me.  There, I said it.  It isn’t because I am not confident in my parenting abilities; it is because I remember what it is like to be a teenage girl.  Believe it or not, it hasn’t been that long since I was one <cough, cough>.  I see my girls growing up and find myself in awe of what we (Farmer Bob and I) have created.  I may be a bit biased, but I see beautiful, smart, amazing girls.  At their ages now (10, 6, and 4) they are not so much concerned with appearance and acceptance, but times the...more

Friendship Via the Internet; Is It Really Possible?

A little over six months ago, I started this little blogging adventure.  Partially on a whim, partially from nudging from family and friends, but mainly because I thought it would be fun to just write about whatever strikes my fancy.  I had fully intended to keep it to myself and share it with my family and a few friends.   Like many things in our lives, certain events never follow the path that we intended for them to take.  This blog is one of those things in which I am ever so grateful for the change in destination....more

This Journey Called Motherhood

The other night I was making a mental list of all the things I needed to get done. Laundry, grocery shopping, dressers need cleaned out, windows are filthy, you all know what I mean.  Once  I started making this list, all I could think about was how hard it is to get all these things accomplished, ever. This in turn led me to think about how in the world would I get these things done if I was working. Gone for 8+ hours, 5 days a week? Damn, I'd be screwed. ...more

Do You WANT It, or Do You NEED It?

So, my brain is tired.  Ball games every night, working really hard getting my 4-H kids ready for the county fair, plus (trying) to keep up with the garden, the house, and the kids, I'm tired.  I have nothing new for you today except for an update from the idiots at Expedia .  It's at the bottom.  I didn't figure those twits deserved top billing.  I wrote a post back in March about WANT vs. NEED and teaching kids the difference. I really like it and think you will too.  Without further ado, please enjoy this re-post: ...more

Do I Have Too Many Kids?

The other day, my dear friend The Nitty Gritty Mommy, mommy of 3 preschoolers, posted these two status updates on her Facebook page: "Yes, yes I do have my hands full. And they are all mine. And no, they are not triplets, but the boys ARE twins. Yes, I know it goes by fast. And I know you don't envy me, I could tell by the look on your face. You didn't need to say it. And yes, not that it's your business, but I am "done" having kids. " While on the topic, let me share another little ditty with you....more

The Upper Hand in Parenting: Raising Ultimate Free Range Kids

I was talking with a cousin the other day about raising kids. Nothing scientific. Hell, there is nothing scientific about successful parenting. We all know this gig is a total crap shoot. We were over at my in-laws, which is only a mile away from mine, and the kids were outside playing. The topic came up of raising kids in the country versus raising them in the city. I may be somewhat biased here, but I do believe that I may have the upper hand....more

10 Things a Mom Should Never Skimp On

When you become a mother for the first time, you swear that you will never buy anything but the best for your cute little bundle of joy.  As the bundle grows, and you add bundles, you realize that you no longer can, or should, buy only the best.  I decided today, after a horrible wiping accident, that there are just some things that you just should never skimp on as a parent and feel I should share my short list with you....more

Dark Shadows; A Johnny-Depp-Lovin-Momma's View

*Disclaimer:  I am NOT a movie reviewer.  My only qualifications here are that I like to watch them.* This may come as a big surprise to those of you who know me and have been following me for a while, but I simply ADORE Johnny Depp.  I know, shocking news huh?  So when readers asked me to write a review on Dark Shadows, I had to ask myself if this was something I could do objectivel...more
