NaBloPoMo #2: If You Could Live Anywhere, Where Would You Live?
By SingleMomtism on November 05, 2012
I should have been born on a ship at sea. Or maybe in a hammock on the sand. Not that I'd wish that kind of birth on my mother, mind you. I've just always felt I was destined for the island life. I tell my kids I'm going to take them to an island someday, just the three of us. We'll swim with dolphins and wear flowers in our hair and drink coconut milk and eat crazy, unpronounceable fruit.
But I love Fall. I love autumn leaves changing colors and fireplaces burning on crisp fall nights and apple-flavored everything. Maybe the Pacific Northwest is where I need to be. The kids and I can go apple picking and dress warmly as we stand on the craggy coastline, with the crisp air biting and sea spray stinging our cheeks.
Or maybe it's New England that suits me better. Sleigh rides through the snow with the kids, cocoa in front of fireplaces as we're snowed in by a strong Nor'easter, and the smell of pine everywhere. We can go cut down our own Christmas tree, snuggle warmly under a big comforter as we watch the snowfall from the window.
I grew up in the Southwest, and spring in the desert is something to behold. The way the cactus can flower, or the fireweed leaving a trail of red across a valley. The sunset turning the mountains around my hometown pink and purple as the sky blazes orange and yellow. The smell of rain on sagebrush. I'll never forget that smell as long as I live. The kids and I can go out and dance in the rain as I used to do as a child. We'll laugh and run along the mountain trails and dig fossils out of the dry desert riverbeds.
No matter where I go, I can't imagine going without my two best buddies. So I guess that's the answer to the question then. If I could live anywhere, I'd live with them.
We'll make our own magic, no matter where it is.
