NaBloPoMo November 19-23, 2012 - Catching up
Monday, November 19, 2012 If you had to get locked in some place (book store, amusement park, etc) overnight alone, where would you choose to be locked in?
E L Konigsburg wrote From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs Basil E Frankweiler and won The Newbury Medal in 1968. This book was read aloud to my class by Mrs Caldwell my 4th grade teacher everyday for two weeks following recess. It helped calm us down after lunch and recess. I was mesmerized about the story of Claudia and Jamie, siblings who ran away from home and lived in the Metropolitan Museum of Art for one week without anyone finding out.
When I was 4 or 5 years old I tried to run away from home but couldn't figure out how to open the suitcase in my closet. This story was a way for me to live vicariously through the characters to run away and have an adventure. I think this is why I love art museums now until this day. If I was in an art museum I would find my favorite painting or sculpture and look at it all night.
Tuesday, November 20, 2012 Talk about the opening of your favourite book.
"Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins were." Gone With The Wind, Margaret Mitchell
I had to read this book before it was brought to TV in 1977. This was a landmark event because this movie had never been on TV before and it held the record for the highest grossing movie for almost 40 years. My mom had always talked about how she loved the movie so much. I loved the book and the opening line was reflective of how the story was all about Scarlett with the Civil War in the background. Many years later I read the sequel, Scarlett which I also devoured and enjoyed reading immensely.
Nowadays, there are so many books brought to the movie screen and then on DVD within 6 months. This movie and book was legendary for decades before it was made accessible to the public. It had a mystique that held me in suspense and excited to read and then watch.
Wednesday, November 21, 2012 Where is your favourite place to read.
I like to read in bed but if I don't start reading before bedtime it is extremely easy for me to fall asleep.
Thursday, November 22, 2012 When was the last time that you cried? Why?
I have watchd my son in his search for happienss and his growing pains his first year out of college. He has moved far away and I spent so much energy raising him and helping him make the move. I cried at the airport watching him board the plane for a new job on the other side of the world.
Friday, November 23, 2012 What is the hardest word for you to say?
Eclectic. Too many Cs.
