Facebook memes are huge these days, and I'm a big fan of anything that brings people together. Well, almost anything. As you'll see in the piece, one meme on Facebook, although perhaps well-intentioned, fell flat in my opinion. I tried to play along, but soon found myself in tears. I spoke out about why the simple "bra color" meme was so difficult for me, and for other survivors of breast cancer -- a key group, since the meme was ostensibly started to raise breast cancer awareness. Not everyone agreed with me, of course, but my post did stimulate discussion -- within 24 hours, the post received 35,000 page views, 300+ comments, and another 45 comments over at BlogHer, and was posted and reposted on Facebook and Twitter over and over. I'm submitting this for the Community Keynote because I want to keep talking about what it's really like to fight -- and survive -- cancer and still be a woman, a worker, an mother, and friend. Thank you for the opportunity.
In the name of awareness (the Facebook color meme)
