Something old something new

I watched the best television show yesterday.  It was about a bride who was trying to choose between her mother's wedding dress and buying a brand new dress.  To add a little drama, they had a wedding gown designer on hand to transform the mother's outdated dress into a dress worthy of a wedding in 2014.  It was really neat to see the old gowns change so drastically into something both the mother and daughter could enjoy.

It reminded me a lot of when I picked out my wedding dress almost six years ago.  I did not have the option of wearing my mother's wedding dress.  My mother got married in the winter in a middle of a blizzard during the 1970s.  She told me that after the wedding reception was over, she stained a good portion of the dress on red streamers that were decorating her red VW bug.  She was trying to get into the car in her wedding gown and snow had gotten on the streamers, which bled on to the gown.  That probably was pretty tradgic to my mother at the time. Now she just laughs at memory and remembers the good times of that day.

I got my wedding dress from a major retail wedding store.  I knew it was my dress when I first saw it in the department store window as I was entering the store.  I asked to try on that particular dress and I just knew that was the one.  Of course my mother was not convinced and had me try on 20 differenet other dresses.  But I knew that the first dress was the one. I loved the organza material, cap sleeves and the pale blue flowers that covered the dresss.  I remember thinking that I was being scandelous by having color on my wedding dress.  Now I don't know why I was being so silly.

I still have the dress in my basement.  I did not have it properly cleaned or preserved so it is just sitting in a heap in the bag.  Maybe Zoe will wear it someday?
