I think everyone can agree that when we eat healthy and exercise we feel so much better. It seems easier said than done though, right? I think I’m like most people and go through times were I am feeling great and then other times when I need to seriously step it up (usually during the winter months). Sometimes it is hard for me to get the motivation. It’s that sluggish feeling you get and the last thing you want to do is exercise. Yeah, I get that. ...more
I hate the word diet. It conjures images of deprivation, hunger and general misery. I dieted on and off for years. I did portion control, calorie counting, slim fast – every insane thing on the weight loss industry told me was TOTALLY sane. And every time I cut a food I loved out of my diet completely (I’m looking at you cheese), I’d end of bingeing on it in a fit of hunger and then beating myself up for it. What an unhealthy relationship with food....more
When I was a kid, it seemed like everyone in my family had recurring stomach issues. Back then, there was no real dialogue among us or anyone else I knew about the many factors that could be contributing to our pain. If your stomach ached often, you simply suffered in silence-- or at least, I did. I figured it was hereditary, and there was nothing I could do about it....more
Except, the word cannot possibly illustrate the amount of "busy" that you are. Not even close. Now that I have told you how busy I really am, let me further explain one thing that is lacking in my life. Exercise. Something that I struggle with a lot is finding the time to get away in order to go running, squeeze in a workout, and do a quick video with Jillian Michaels....more
With two little boys under the age of 4, "stationary" isn't a word in my vocabulary and truth be told, I don't want it to be a word in my vocabulary either. Keeping active and fit has always been important to me but since having children, it's become even more important and more significant in my life. Why? Because I want to be around to watch my children grow well into their adulthood and much like I feel now, I don't want to witness this from the sidelines....more
When I am super stressed or anxious one of the first symptoms I experience is digestive issues. It seems to be one of the ways that my body physically manifests the emotional stress of anything from a job interview to an argument to receiving really bad news. I have had this post in the "to write" list for over a year because I have a feeling that I'm not alone in this. I was getting my hair done last summer and flipping through Real Simple magazine....more
As I get older, health becomes more and more of a focus. When I was younger, my main focus was to look healthy...healthy weight, healthy skin, healthy hair. But now, I actually want to feel healthy - and I think there can sometimes be a big difference between those two. Life can be busy, but there are certain things I do to stay at my best no matter how little time I might have. There are several steps I've taken in the past couple of years to not only look my best, but to be my most healthy....more
Probiotics have gained a lot of media attention thanks to folks like Jamie Lee Curtis in her yogurt commercials and I’m 100% ok with that because I believe it’s an area that can help a lot of us resolve digestive issues. Did you know that digestive issues are on the rise in the US? Did you know that STRESS is one of the biggest culprits behind digestives issues?...more
Motherhood requires levels of energy I never anticipated. It requires stamina and feeling good...for all the trips up and down the stairs, hunting for toys under the sofa, and for making dinner with one arm while carrying a child with the other. But, more importantly, being a mother requires wellness for all the fun and wonderful memories ready to be made. Taking hikes, crawling into homemade forts, throwing the football, running after a little one learning to ride a bike...there's no one else who can take your place. Being a fun and active mom calls for a healthy mom....more
I'm twelve years into raising babies, and I've learned much about how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Over the years I've seen how lack of sleep, unhealthy foods and a general "on the go" lifestyle can take its toll. While digestive health is important for everyone, for some reason digestive "troubles" only plague me and the girls....more
