[Editor's Note: Recently Netflix raised their prices across the board and people are FREAKIN'!  But I have seen the occaisional devils advocate on twitter arguing that it's time to a price hike, and the rest of us are being unreasonable.  What do you think?  Fair or exorbitant?]

This week I, along with millions of other customers, got an e-mail from Netflix announcing their price hike.

And the internet promptly ignited in a giant fireball directed squarely at Netflix. As of this morning, when I clicked on "Dear Netflix" as a trending topic, within two minutes there were 171 new tweets.

People are pretty pissed...

I deleted my account because I could not afford the hike in price. Not all movies on Netflix stream so I would have needed the DVD plan. It was just too much for not enough service.

We don't really like the price hike but with 2 young kids (both are under 2) we don't really get to go out in the evening.
So my husband and I figure it's the cheapest "date night" we can do. It's about the cost it would be for us to go see a movie in the theater...and without having to pay for a babysitter!

Wasn't thrilled about the price hike but I've been a member for SO long and it has increased very little over time. I only watch the DVD's so it is more expensive, but with removing streaming from my account and going from 4 to 3 out at a time (I never get to watch that many close together)... I'm actually going to be saving money.

I have been thinking about what do as well. I like your comparison to 6 Redbox rentals a month. That really puts the prize increase into perspective. If only Redbox had decent movies!

Of course I hate that the DVD option is so expensive now, but I also understand that sometimes businesses have to make risky moves in order to survive. I'll be keeping my account with them, but streaming only.

I don't love the idea of a price hike, but I do love Netflix! I am going to swallow the change because I've been a member since August of 2005 and I have used an exceptionally huge amount of their services. I watch streaming movies on my computer, and we have two Roku devices and we rent a ton of movies.
I can earnestly say, I've been waiting for Netflix to jack up the pricing for quite some time. Even with the considerable rise,it's worth it to me...
