NEW! BlogHer '10 Serenity Suite by Heather of the EO and Maggie, Dammit

Calling all recovering alcoholics and addicts, sufferers of anxiety, survivors of abuse, needers of a safe space and general all-around party people! (What, too much?)

Introducing: The BlogHer Serenity Suite. Room 4307

The annual BlogHer conference is a smorgasbord of socialization, from parties to panels to non-stop squee-ing, and it can be as overwhelming as it is exhilarating. The Serenity Suite in Room 4307, we hope, will be an oasis. Open throughout the conference, this BlogHer-sponsored space will allow anyone who needs it to take a moment or two in the peace and quiet to rejuvenate. This will be a no-frills safe place to simply sit and connect with fellow bloggers in a low-key environment, and then return to the parties or sessions refreshed and ready to join in on all that BlogHer has to offer.

Stop by Room 4307 whenever you please for complimentary coffee, tea or water, and to simply relax. The BlogHer Serenity Suite will be open on Thursday from 7pm-10pm, Friday from 10am-10pm (closed 4:30-6:30pm for keynotes), and on Saturday from 10am-10pm (closed 5pm-6pm for keynote).

On hand in Room 4307, in and out, at various times all weekend will be:

If you have questions email Heather ( heatheroftheeo [at] gmail [dot] com) or Maggie ( okayfinedammit [at] gmail.com ), or leave a comment here on this discussion.

Special thanks to BlogHer for seeing the need, supporting the vision, and making the suite in Room 4307 possible. Please help spread the word, and we hope to see you there!

Sounds lovely. As excited as I am, I'm definitely going to need a moment here and there to just BREATHE.

Sounds Wonderful!

June 16, 2010 - 2:24pm

Every year, there comes a point where I've reached information overload and just need to decompress, or am having social anxiety but don't necessarily want to just go to my room. Having someone to quietly chat with will be perfect! So great of you to organize this.

This is a fantastic idea.

June 16, 2010 - 2:28pm

This is a fantastic idea. It's never fun to experience a panic attack at something that is supposed to be...fun.

Hey Y'all: http://heyyall.typepad.com

I am SO happy to hear this! I"m staying with a friend in Queens, so going back to my own room is not an option for me. It'll be nice knowing there's a place I can just go and sit for a minute, especially with the added bonus of such cool people in there! thanks!

Thank You

June 16, 2010 - 4:46pm

Oh this sounds perfect. Thank you guys so much for having a space like this. I already know I am going to be overwhelmed and in need of a little quiet time.

I have a feeling...

June 16, 2010 - 4:47pm

I'll be spending most of my time in here...Can we get a massage circle going, summer-camp-style??

Great idea!

June 17, 2010 - 5:26am

I think this is a FANTASTIC idea. Let me know if I can help out at all. (I'm a bit of an expert on anxiety!) Either way, I'll be sure to stop by.

I'll be in there. Not with bells on, because that would not be very serene to come charging in ringing.

Being an introvert...

June 17, 2010 - 6:03am

I find the suites and smaller places my favorite parts of BlogHer. I'm just not a BIG LOUD CRAZY party kind of person. I can't wait to see you.

YOU GUYS

June 17, 2010 - 6:21am

Thank you! I'm so glad so many people "get it," and that you're on board. See you there!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

June 18, 2010 - 8:14am

This is especially helpful for locals like me who don't want to schlep all the way back home.

June 18, 2010 - 9:10am

How great is that? Thank you for knowing just we need to decompress with all the whirling around!

I'm there!

June 18, 2010 - 10:25am

This sounds like exactly what I need. Not only are there some amazing women hanging out in this room, but as an anxiety sufferer, I am going to need a few moments of peace, I'm sure. I love this option over hiding alone in my room. :)

Help.

June 19, 2010 - 5:13am

If I can help out in any way, please let me know. I'd love to be apart of this! :)

What the deuce?

June 21, 2010 - 3:05pm

Am I not on that list up there because you know I'll be too busy partying to stop in? That is very presumptuous of you, my dear. Of course, it is also very astute. ;)

Kudos to you and Heather for creating a space for the people who might need a place to take a moment, sit back, reflect, collect, and put their smiley faces back on for the masses.

Love you guys.

But I will happily add you if you're willing! Let me know, love. xo

Yoga

Let me know if you'd like someone to lead a yoga session. As long as it doesn't conflict with karaoke, I'm your lady.

GWEN. I would LOVE that.

Let me talk to BlogHer and see if we have any restrictions on that kind of thing. THANK YOU. I'll email you.

What a fantastic idea! I

June 21, 2010 - 4:55pm

What a fantastic idea! I generally don't need that kind of space (heck me going to BlogHer is my way of getting away), but as the wife and mom to 2 bipolar guys I totally appreciate it because they often need space to chill out and get away from it all. Brava!

Musings from Me

I don't know about everyone else but I will be using this room. Like Elizabeth I have escaped to my hotel room when I am overwhelmed with meeting people. Having a place to sit down will be refreshing.

I had planned to hang out with the Silicon Valley Moms across the road at the Relax Suite at Flatotel, but since the group is closing its virtual doors I would imagine the suite will not happen.

Count Me In!

June 25, 2010 - 10:44am

What a lovely idea. I will definitely be hanging around. Especially as an Autism mom, sudden feelings can come up, I'd be happy to be a (local NYC) special needs parenting resource, as well as emotional support. If anyone wants a little of my story as a s.n. mom, this post, "From Autist to Artist" is a good place to start: http://thesquashedbologna.blogspot.com/2010/05/from-autist-to-artist.html

Can't wait to see ya all there, Varda

Nice!

June 27, 2010 - 1:10am

Awesome. I think I will find "my kind of people" here!

I'm in. It's been a tough 121 days.

Excellent idea

July 13, 2010 - 5:16pm

I think this is a great idea... When I was at SXSW and Blogworld, all I wanted was a quiet place to relax, disconnect and reconnect from the excitement... The closest I got was finding a remote location and putting on my headphones. I look forward to visiting the room.

serenity!

The introvert in me is just jumping up and down with excitement.
Thanks for creating a serene place for all of us. I am most certainly packing my knitting.

Now back to getting ready for the Tutu's for Tanner walk and my debut in a tutu.

Serenity suite

July 25, 2010 - 7:17pm

From what I've heard things are so crazy at BlogHer, I'm just going to write the suite number on my forearm with a Sharpie. It will fade eventually won't it?

I"m in.

July 28, 2010 - 4:34pm

Don't know what time I can - but I'm guessing some time Friday.

in the afternoon.
