New Feature: BlogHer Meet-ups Everywhere and Anytime

BlogHers like to meet up. We've been having pre-conference meet-ups in various cities for several years now. This year we noticed people were scheduling post-conference meet-ups. Now we're even planning during-conferene "Pity Party" meet-ups for those who can't attend conferences in person. Oh, and not to mention holiday meet-ups, summer meet-ups, Valentine's Day meet-ups. Turns out we don't need much of an excuse to replicate the experience (and the joy) of meeting face-to-face on a smaller scale. Everywhere. And anytime.

So when the fine folks at Meetup.com introduced us to their new service "Meetup Everywhere", we realized it was perfect for BlogHer and our entire community.

So, look for the Meetup widget in our right sidebar (right below the conferences block) and get started! It will take you to the BlogHer Meetup Everywhere landing page, and from there you can decide to start gauging interest for a meet-up in your city. You can organize a meetup yourself, (click the +Schedule a Meetup about BlogHer button), or just attach yourself to someone else's, (click the I'm Interested button) . And you can add this widget to your own blog, (click Get a Widget for Your Site).

Oh, look. Denise has already created one meet-up. She wants to go to In-n-Out Burger while she's in San Francisco for BlogHer Food!

What kind of meet-up do you want to plan? How about a post-BlogHer Food meet-up, so those who went can brain-dump to those who weren't able to? The week of October 17th?

Just a suggestion! We're just eager to see where all the BlogHer meet-ups pop up using this much more scalable, simple tool.

Have fun. Wish we could go to every single one!

Thanks for the explanation, Elisa. I was wondering about that, too.

In its one annoying feature, the service does "suggest" a meet-up close to the user, if one doesn't exist, in hopes that one will sign up to host or say they're interested.

But you're right that it's a phantom meet-up until someone does sign up to go or say they'll host.

But you're the only one who sees that unless you make it official by doing so. Just as I'm seeing one in Georgia because Im here on travel right now, but you don't see it.

Now, if you start a real one for Athens, other people will see it.

Hope that helps.

(And it's our first piece of feedback for Meetup that those personal phantom meet-ups are confusing not encouraging :)

How does this work? Or rather - DOES it work?
I guess my IP adress is registered when I am logged in to BlogHer and that´s why my nearest town shows up as a link, saying "Find one near Kavala" (Kavala, Greece).
Clicking on the link, I find to my surprise that there will be a meeting in Kavala next Sunday. And that the meeting needs an organizer and a venue.
I do suspect this meeting has been created simply by me clicking on that link - as I seriously doubt there are other bloggers from the Kavala area at BlogHer.
There would be a bigger chance to find someone in Athens or even Thessaloniki - and I wouldn´t mind going there to meet up with them.
So how do I find out if there is a real meeting in my area, and not one only generated by a link? And how will other bloggers in Greece know?

If you will be in the Bay Area on October 7th, I'd love it if you'd join my meetup.

I've never been to In & Out and it's my 47th birthday - what better way to help me celebrate?! I'd love to see you (or meet you, if I've not had the pleasure before.)
