New Writing Gig - About Pets!!

I have some very fun writing news to share with you today! Got to admit, I'm kind of proud of myself on this one. As you already know, I found a new (low-paying) writing job providing a pet supply company with blog posts for their website. So far they wanted, and I wrote, informational-educational style posts for them. Such as"Do Dogs Only see in Black and White? And other Dog Myths Answered" and "4 Reasons Not to Get a Dog and Why You'll be Glad You Adopted a Dog Anyway!"I figured out an idea, did the research and submitted the article. They liked everything I sent in and that was all well and good. I have been doing this type of writing for a long time now and it is not terribly rewarding, but it was nice to be writing about animals instead of baby gifts as I have done for the last 2 years.

During the night last week I had an inspiration and in the morning I wrote up a proposal and sample blog post to go along with it and sent it in to the pet supply company. I really sold myself in this idea pitch and they loved the idea and said, "Sounds great, go for it!" I suggested that I could write up some blog posts centered around personal experiences with my own dog Layla, told in the first person and this would bring a warmth to the website and attract more customers because dog-lovers and bloggers are very loyal people who enjoy a good dog story. I told them that I could gain a following that would help their business and add some personality to the website. Yah I said that.
So, today you will see the very first "Life With Layla" blog post on The Pet Supply Company Blog!! Comments are very welcome on the blog post and on the Pet Supply Company Facebook page. Back me up, ok?
I totally enjoyed writing that post and you have already heard the Layla-story that I tell, but there is something so exciting about writing creatively in my own voice for pay, even though it is low and less than what it is worth. Yep, I'm saying that too. (to you and to me, anyway!) It feels REAL, and it reminds me of my early days of wanting to write a regular newspaper column like Erma Bombeck.  The Pet Supply Company wants a new blog post every Friday and I am happy and excited to do it for them.
Little Layla is turning out to be a great source of inspiration and maybe more income for me! Who would have thought such a thing??? Now you guys need to hop on over there and show them I was right ok? Thanks Gang!
