What does diet mean anyway? I have no qualm with the true definition of diet, but the connotations that run along with "diet" generally mean restriction of calories--usually at the expense of nutrition. This leads to yo-yo's. Some sociologists say that as women get more powerful they are encouraged to look less powerful, skinny, band waif-like. Perhaps this is what is viewed as attractive in culture today but I propose simplifying things and just eat in such a way that supports health instead of trying to shed pounds.
I did not grow up with this mindset, yo-yo'ed for a number of years. Now I am a single mom in school full time, I have my daughter full time, do massage on the side and teach yoga. I am very busy but at a healthy weight and feel great. True, there are restrictions in what I eat, but my reasons are deeper so they overcome any binge impulse one might feel.
Key: At each meal I try to make sure I have had some protein and water. It seems that carbs without protein always leave me hungry and munchy. Listen to your body, pay attention to how you feel after you eat certain foods!
Vegetarian, Gluten-free
I'm allergic to gluten, and have found that since I began eating gluten free I feel so much better. Gluten free cuts out many empty, overprocessesed carbs. I still eat carbs in the forms of potatoes, rice, corn ect. but also gain nutrition Try switching to rice pasta for less calories
There are so many reasons I am vegetarian I can't go into them all. However, being vegetarian I feel I have more of a window for fats because I do not need to worry about the high fat intake of most meats. Oils add flavor to food and necessary nutrition too. Beware of good oils like olive and coconut.
You don't have to be vegetarian gluten free to be aware of your need for nutrition instead of just calorie fuel. Ultimately be informed and think smart. Switch your thinking to the fact that you are fueled by nutrients not just calories--and take a daily multivitamin to curb cravings!
Examples
Breakfast: green tea, chocolate rice-cake with (Omega 3 added) peanut butter and honey, activia bring an apple to snack on a couple of hours later
Lunch: corn quesadilla made with chihuahua cheese, rice (i add some lentils & frozen peas and carrots), and black beans snack on baby carrots later
Supper: Frozen gluten-free pizza with mushrooms and spinach added, a bowl of frozen blueberries, handfull of almonds
