Okay, I admit it, sometimes we do frozen pizza.
Longtime readers will know that I make from scratch about 80 percent of what my family eats. But on the nights when I don’t have it together, I have no plan and nothing in the fridge, I just want to feed them something I won’t hate myself for in the morning.
I don’t order pizza because it’s so expensive, unless you get the premium kind it doesn’t taste very good, and I can’t stand how unhealthy it is. It feels like I’m just filling the kids up, but I’m not actually feeding them. So we started experimenting this year with the good organic frozen pizzas with some moderate success.

When Newman’s Own asked me to take a look at their super-thin crust pizza line I was thrilled. (YAY!! Newman’s OWN! I LOVE THEM!) I explained usual ground rules – I have a code of ethics, and I’ll only write about it if I actually like it and will use it in my day to day life.
And here’s me writing about it, folks.
We picked out two to try – the four-cheese and the Supreme. Right away I was thrilled because they are whole-grain thin crust, and all-natural. They toasted up nice and crisp in the oven in only a couple of minutes. (In the summer, you can do them on the grill, easy.)
I sliced them and served with a piece of fruit.
The flavor was good, the pizza was not at all greasy, and the crust was crisp with a nice nuttiness to it. Much much nicer than delivery and the quality of the ingredients was probably better than most of the local places.
The big shock for me was that the kids ate the Supreme and liked it better than the four-cheese. The Supreme had bell peppers, sausage and pepperoni on it and the toppings were flavorful with a nice texture (not mushy). So they actually got a full serving of vegetables and some extra protein in there.
I am very happy to review these pizzas and recommend them to my readers. We’ll certainly be keeping them on hand in our house and we’re excited to try the other flavors, too.
