Newsflash: Heather Armstrong to speak (and celebrate her birthday) at BlogHer '08
by Elisa Camahort

Heather Armstrong Hot on the heels of her quadruple-win at the 2008 Weblog Awards, I am pleased to announce that Heather Armstrong (aka Dooce) is returning to BlogHer '08 this July in San Francisco.

Heather was part of the very first BlogHer "Naked" session at the inaugural conference in 2005, and spoke about the ups, downs and late nights of monetizing your blog in 2006.

In 2008, with her first book being released in April (along with other impending opportunities yet to be announced) Heather will be part of BlogHer '08's closing general session discussion about what it's like "Living the Truman Show*."

Bloggers everywhere are putting their lives online...and now into other media too. We'll talk to Heather about how it feels to put yourself under that microscope. Heather may live it on a bigger scale than most of us, but haven't you experienced some or all of these symptoms?

  • Parts of life get nearly fictionalized in your own head as you plan your next blog post about events happening in real-time
  • People confuse you with a character and forget you're a real human being
  • As your friends, co-workers and family become more aware of your blog they either get caught up in it all...or get more and more uncomfortable.
  • The session will take place on Saturday July 19th, which just happens to be Heather's actual birthday. (I'm seeing a mass singalong in her future, what do you think?)

Stay tuned, as this is just the first of many announcements to come about BlogHer '08 programming!

Earlybird registration is still in effect through March 31st, 2008, for more info go here.

*The Truman Show was a movie from 1998 about a man who discovers his "life" is actually a reality TV show that the entire world is watching. Hmmm...sounds like how I felt the first time I wrote something snarky about a public figure...and they actually sent me an email complaining about it! Here I thought I was the only one in the world tracking with ego-feeds!

    This is exciting, but July

This is exciting, but July 29th? Did the dates of the BlogHer SF Conf change? I thought the main conference is July 18-20...

    Great catch Uncommonality!

You are right, and my fingers were moving too fast this morning. I have corrected to the 19th.

Sorry for the little heart attack everyone :)

I subscribe to this feed in Bloglines, and when I clicked the link in the feed, it went to a 404 error page. Thought you'd like to know ;)

    My bad...typo in headline :(

I didn't just mess up the date, I had a typo in the headline. And fixing it changes the URL. Oh the humanity! My big post for the week, and I screwed it up twice!!!

    Sorry.

    FABULOUS

I cannot tell you how excited I am to be going to BlogHer this year - finally. And since I've been reading Dooce since about the time she got married... I'm even more excited.

I've yet to meet a blogger in person. Color me terrified.

    Yaay!

Saw Dooce @ the inaugural BlogHer and then at her SXSW keynote the next year. She's funny, always thoughtful, a great panelist/interview/keynoter. Still working on being able to get there this year. Will do my best!

    Yay!

I saw Heather speak at BlogHer '06, and I really appreciated her point of view. Two years later, this idea of living The Truman Show is becoming more and more real for me, so I can't wait to attend this session!
