No, It's NOT That Time of The Month...Put The Milk In The Fridge!!!
By jellysbean on July 13, 2011
I wake up on this drizzly, cool morning and peruse through my usual news/celeb gossip/social networking sites, and I stumble across something interesting. Very interesting indeed. And I am MORE than grateful that I am currently not going through PMS at this moment.
I read on a national news site that advertising agency Board and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, which began the national "Got Milk?" ad campaign in 1993, has introduced a new campaign entitled: "Everything I Do Is Wrong: Your Home For PMS Management".
Great, I thought. I knew milk has been shown to ease PMS symptoms, and this might be a funny website for women to come together and learn some interesting facts, maybe communicate with other women, heck, have a good laugh even! We are all in this together, right?
It's for men.
I clicked on the link to the website and found that it is chock full of little golden nuggets like: The Current Global PMS Level, Emergency Milk Locator (which tracks down your local supermarket) Pre-Approved Apologies, and oh so much more.
Don't get me wrong. It's cute- in an over-generalized and presumptuous way. I did however giggle at some of the features because at times I really do feel sorry for my poor unsuspecting husband. He sometimes (ok, more than sometimes) has to deal with me and the occasional burst into tears or moodiness I tend to experience.
That being said, there is nothing that sets me off faster than a firework on the Fourth of July than a male asking that seemingly innocent question, (and usually when I am passionately talking about something that matters to me) "Is it that time of the month?"
AAAAAAARRRGGHHHGHGH!!! Here comes the Incredible Hulk.
I feel like this website (as light-hearted as it is trying to be) is again confirming the stereotype that all women are impossible to deal with when Aunt Flo comes to town. However, the truth is, there are many women who don’t experience many of the symptoms listed. I wish I was so lucky, but not so much. I do feel bad when I snap at something as minute as the sound of my husband chewing his food, but I feel like the more the media flaunts these “crazy behaviors of women”, it’s just rubbing it in our faces. I mean, I apologized already. Why must you keep bringing it up? Am I right?
All this being said, I don’t think the website should be changed- or taken down for that matter. I will try to be a good sport (the best I can) and laugh. It might not be a sincere belly-laugh, but be happy I am laughing, ok?
But men, be warned: If you so much as hand me a picture you made on the “Puppy Dog-Eye-Zer” and hand me a glass of milk, just know that in my “crazy PMS state” I might not have control over myself and dump the milk on your head.
