No Room at the Inn?!
By marykathleen on June 18, 2012
That is what Kevin and I have encountered while looking for a hotel in downtown Chicago to set up a hotel block for our wedding and/or to stay at for the night of our wedding. Our wedding is November 10 and downtown hotels are pretty much booked solid already! WTF? It turns out that there is an ophthalmologist conference in town that weekend so all of the hotels jacked up their prices and now they are pretty much all booked. Crazy! Ophthalmologist conference?! For reals? Reminds me of the time my dad and I were driving back to Chicago all the way from Albuquerque, NM and tried to stop at a hotel in Joplin, MO, but all of the hotels were booked because a clay pigeon shooting tournament was in town. So weird! So we drove all the way back to Chicago without stopping.
So this hotel situation is a snafu in our wedding planning, but fortunately, we don't have too many people who would need a hotel. There was some vacancy at the Westin, but the cheapest room was going for $470. Ridiculous! Peeps might as well just take a cab home if they're planning to get schnockered. And as for me and my groom, we can always stay at our apartment that night. We'll be leaving for our honeymoon to St. Lucia two days later, so whatevs.
