Ahh, the weekend is here, thank God! What better time to catch up on some blog reading? Here are, once more, some great posts written by women with ties to the Caribbean.

We'll start of with Elspeth from Now Is Wow, who writes about her reasons to start her blog:

Mine started on a whim and continued daily, becoming what now feels like a train station where my creative thoughts, projects and sometimes just simple everyday thoughts and experiences meet, interchange, pick up passengers (or not) and continue on their journey.

I'm so glad that you started a blog, Elspeth, so that all of us can read about your thoughts and projects that you share with us.

Linda Thompkins from My Barbados Blog writes about the history of African American participation in Mardi Gras:

The local blacks finally got tired of being left out of their cities celebration, so they started a separate Mardi Gras celebrations of their own.

It started simply with locals gathering in the streets and dancing, and then to the formation of different clubs. This eventually evolved into full fledged parades with feathered costumes of elaborate design.

I always find it interesting to learn about carnivals from other countries. There are so many different nations that celebrate carnival, but no one does it exactly the same as the other.

Gela from 'Gela N The City laments about Jamaica having to deal with terrorism much more closer to home than expected:

...I can't believe that terrorist Sheikh Abdullah El Faisal is going to be deported to Jamaica. Lawdhaffmurcy on us. As if our gun-toting criminals aren't enough, now we have to worry about terrorist threats because we'll have our own soon to arrive, fresh from England, in-house terrorist.

Man, that must just be crazy! Of all the places to export someone, Jamaica is the choice? Kind of odd, in my opinion.

Something much nicer is coming to the Caribbean: Golf! Simone from Something Extra explains:

And if you have not already heard, the International Federation of PGA Tours will be holding the 2006 World Golf Championships-World Cup in Barbados for the first time.

Barbados is starting to become a hotspot for competitions! Good job, Barbados!

That was it for now, but I'll be back soon with more excerpts of the wonderful writing that is out there. See you then!
