Cancer sucks. The treatment is long, financially devastating, and hard to bear for the body and the soul. Many survivors and caregivers feel that the only good thing that comes from a cancer diagnosis is the renewed appreciation for life that one gains. In that spirit, there are three cancer bloggers of note who have recently found something to celebrate:

Jeannette writes about her "graduation:"

While many are contemplating going back to school, I have just graduated. No longer am I required to make a pilgramage to to oncologisit every three months. I have graduated to six month appointments. Apparently, I am holding steady-ish on the tumor markers and all is good. Still no sign of cancer.

A year after her diagnosis, Minerva looks ahead to the future:

And so a New Year begins. Tomorrow I return to school for a new set of classes, new staff and a new beginning. It seems incredible that only a year ago, I had a lump in my breast which I was planning to get checked on the 6th September and here we are, nearly a year later with chemotherapy, radiation and surgery firmly behind me.

And last but certainly not least, Cary has created a comprehensive guide and bookstore for patients and survivors. Most of the featured books are personally recommended by Cary:

f there’s one thing I know a thing or two about it’s books about cancer… books for cancer patients, books for caregivers, books about diet & nutrition, books about guided imagery – I’ve read a ton of ‘em!

In fact, while looking through all of the cancer-related books I’ve got on my bookshelf I got to thinking: maybe I should find a way to highlight some of the better books I’ve read. So here it is, the Cancer NewsWatch Bookstore – only it’s not just books; there are DVDs, music, green tea and more.

A renewed appreciation and sense of self is evident in each of these blogs. Please join the authors in their celebration of the strength of the spirit. They are kicking cancer's ass!

I was diagnosed with colon cancer over a year ago. I have been through 2 surgeries, 6 months of chemo and just started another round of 3 months of chemo. I decided to go back to school and started at a local community college this fall. I am working on my applications this fall for a Master's Degree in Public Health. This has been very much inspired by everything I have been through in the last year.
