Virtual socializing is cool and all, but it is always fascinating to me to meet up with Internet personalities in real life. Few are exactly as I picture them to be, even if we've all seen our head shots.
One of my favorite conferences is DEMO. The format is perfect for a venture capitalist ("VC") like me: pitches that are strictly limited to six minutes, and loosely grouped by theme. The companies that intrigue me, I can dig deeper into at the Pavillon where all DEMO companies are given equal floor space. Chris Shipley is the Executive Producer of this outstanding event, and contributes frequently to the DEMOletter blog.
Renee Blodgett has a couple posts in the past week both about DEMO in particular and tech conferences in the first quarter.
Blodgett also gives a plug to the recently launched South By Southwest (SXSW) blog here. There has been much chatter on BlogHer the last few weeks about the number of women speakers at SXSW Interactive this year. Kudos to Hugh Forrest for being proactive in addressing an obvious issue with many tech conferences I attend.
