Friday Film Fun: Bad, bad, really bad movies we love anyway
by CityMama

It's Friday! Let's share some "movie guilty pleasures." I'm talking about films that you love that don't admit to anyone except maybe yourself.  Movies that you might share with your partner, but you make a pact never to tell anyone else you watch them. Movies that you watch alone, but you wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm not talking about the award winners. The ones with the complex plots, brilliant acting, or visionary art direction. I'm talking Bring it On.  I'm talking Better Off Dead. I'm talking Basic Instict. 2.

Hello. My name is Stefania, and I like me some bad movies:

Red Dawn (1984)—Wolverines!!!
Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991)—A place in time.  I was so there.
You Got Served (2004)—A place in a different time. I wasn't really there, but I wanted to be.
Electric Dreams (1984)—A guy and his (ancient) computer compete for the same woman...and that woman is  a young Virginia Madsen. (Does anyone else remember this movie?)
Xanadu
(1980)—Olivia Newton John + roller-disco + a soundtrack by ELO. Awesome.
Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle (2004)—Two stoners in search of a burger.  I'm not ashamed to admit... I loved it.

Your turn! What terrible movies do you secretly (or not so secretly) love?

I love his "Wo-man" spoken

I love his "Wo-man" spoken word thing. And when "dad" is yelling at his younger son to move his giant head.

Rage Is Good Food

Passenger 57

I was just thinking about this movie (Passenger 57) this morning (don't ask me why) but I love this really bad film. Two reasons "always bet on black" prefaced by the faux Jaws shark music and the chase through the carnival after which they get back on the hijacked plane. Genius.

And, I also, inexplicably really enjoyed Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. The only other time I laughed that much at so much inappropriateness was during the South Park movie.

Oh, yes.

Let's see. Red Sonja springs to mind - classic really bad Ahnuld and Brigitte - I mean, just check out the quotes:

Also, The Quick and the Dead. Aw yeah.

The Circus is in town! Visit me at Link TextThree Kid Circus.

I love Bring It On. I love

I love Bring It On. I love Center Stage, and I love Coyote Ugly. And So I Marred An Axe Murderer!

Once upon a time when I was much younger, I loved Satisfaction, which starred Julia Roberts and Liam Neeson. I owned a video copy AND the soundtrack.

Bad Bad Movies

The worst ones I like are "Flash Gordon", "Secret Admirer", "Major League" and "Super Troopers".

Sarah and the Goon Squad
Draft Day Suit

Hey!! Major League is a classic!!!

Major League is a classic!! A classic I tell ya!! Folks at baseball games everywhere do the 'too high' move, don't they? Destined to be shown throughout the US every March/April and again in late September. And the Indians win the pennant!!

Now if you're talking bad movies:

Money Pit;
All of Me. sucks me in every time.
Dogma
Every other StarTrek movie...

Debra
A Stitch In Time
Deb's Daily Distractions

"Flash! Ahhh Ahhhhhhh!"

How could you not love Flash Gordon...the soundtrack from Queen...Loved it.

Electric Dreams

Thank you thank you thank you for including this movie in your list! Not because it's bad, because I don't think it is. But then again, I haven't seen it in more than 20 years, heh. No the reason I am happy is because for years and years I have been trying to convince various people that this movie does exist - but I could not for the life of me remember the name of it or exactly who was in it. I must have watched it 100 times on HBO back in the early days of cable when there was only one MOVIE type channel available.

I am ordering it from Amazon RIGHT NOW!

Nobody remembers this movie!

I've asked people my own age (soon-to-be 37) and they give me blank stares.

Hooray for ordering it from Amazon. I think I will, too!

Um... Okay

This is great!

Dirty Dancing and Ghost -- my favorite guilty pleasures.
Beavis and Butthead Do America -- heh heh heh heh...
200 Motels -- a film by Frank Zappa made back in the 70s, this was a staple of midnight movie houses for us. I think I saw it 13 times.
