November: A Month of Committment

Normally there are several of the artists/crafters who choose to participate in NaNoWriMo. Not me, but others.

Now there is NaBloPoMo. Is anyone considering signing up for this one? Yeah, I'm considering it.

I'm a little freaked about writing a quality post every day for a month. Let's face it, many of my posts? That quality is missing. So let's get started thinking about good possible topics:

1. Blocks to working. What are they, why do I create them, steps to take to overcome them.

2. Inspirational photos. Maybe evaluated by basic design principles to determine why they're so good. Maybe just let them speak for themselves.

3. Magazine articles and books reviews. Actually DO some of the things I've earmarked to do.

4. Technology and art. Websites and aps that might be worthwhile.

5. HowTos. Demo some dyeing/painting techniques and maybe some new items.

6. What are other artsy-crafty NoBloPoMo bloggers writing about? Point to some of the best posts.. and let readers vote on the best topic-specific post of the month (with a prize!!).

7. Suggestions? Anyone?

Can this get through the month? Maybe....

Oh, and obviously if you choose to sign up for NaBloPoMo? Please let me know so I can make that list of the artsy-crafty bloggers who participate. There will be some blog plugging and a prize!! (can you say fiber postcards? I think you can!)

And if you're not participating in either one of these, please consider this invitation from Fussy...

If you don't want to participate as a NaBloPoMo blogger then your mission is simply to delurk and comment on one of the NaBloPoMo blogs, or another of your favorite blogs, once a day in the month of November as a show of support. This will also prove that you can read and that you think blogging is nice. And if the site has Google ads, you know what to do.

I'd say, comment on a blog you haven't read before. We all deserve some love... consider this!!

I signed up for my first

October 24, 2006 - 9:52am

I signed up for my first NaNoWriMo this year. For fun. I don't expect to cross the finish line, just kickstart myself into writing more often, and not on message boards. (Not that I don't enjoy message boarding.)

I like the idea of writing a quality blog post each day for a month. I try to do that anyway, but sometimes I feel really lazy so here's another picture of my cat.

Well, I post everyday anyway....so I should participate

My Theme

October 24, 2006 - 10:48am

I'm cheating on the family blog for NoBloPoMo. It's November, right? I'm doing a thankful theme. Oh, I'm such a cheater.

That said, I have no idea what I will write about every day on the adoptionblog. Should be interesting at best. I write every day there because that's what I'm paid to do but... still... I feel this needs to pull out some stops!

I'm doing both

October 24, 2006 - 11:13am

I did NaNoWriMo last year and really enjoyed ... FINISHING it. The actual daily grind did get a bit overwhelming at times, but I'm doing it again this year. Call me crazy.

I'll be doing NaBloPoMo, too. I can't promise quality posts, but I think I can do a post every day. They'll probably end up being word counts and inspiration quotes to keep me going while doing NaNoWriMo!

October 24, 2006 - 11:52am

NaBloPoMo doesn't require quality posts.. it's almost more like TAW's "morning pages"... just write, baby! But I've gotten offtrack on my one blog and need to get it back. So I'm making that my one month challenge.

To the rest taking on this challenge.. good luck and good words!!

Daily Posts

See, that's why I started a blog in the first place: to get myself writing everyday. I can't keep a regular journal just for myself, never could. The "performance art" aspect of blogging is very attractive to me.

Count me in!

October 24, 2006 - 5:30pm

I signed up for NaBloPoMo. I blog at Pocahontas County Fare

I write about fiber arts, natural history, Pocahontas County, WV,
books, and anything else that comes up, but I haven't been doing enough of it lately. A little push will surely be helpful.

I'm doing NaBloPoMo

October 24, 2006 - 5:35pm

Although for me the nationalality is Australia. I've got my plan sorted for what I'll do but haven't announced it yet.
Will do so on my Semantically driven blog just before 1 November. Think I'll get started behind the scenes though, to have somethings organised if I run out of time on any given days.

I'm doing both

October 25, 2006 - 4:55pm

I was very excited to sign up for both, and I even alphabetized the NaBloPoMo list.

Do I know how I'm going to manage both with homeschooling my children and my chronic illness? um, no. It'll be an interesting month, I think. My husband is very supportive, though.

How about DrawMo! ?

October 26, 2006 - 5:36am

Another possibility for November: DrawMo! - which grew out of a comment thread on India, Ink, where people were talking about their neglected stashes of art supplies and how they used to draw or would like to draw... and the name means either "Draw more" or "Drawing month." Participants plan to draw and blog their drawings every day for the month. The sign-up on the blog is open - all are welcome! For artists and crafters, it could be a way to brainstorm 30 new design ideas, and do NaBloPoMo in one fell swoop...

Thanks Elizabeth!!

I was wondering why other creative arenas weren't echoing the writing concept!

But why do they always have to do this in November? Seems to me that Thanksgiving and start of the holidays can really muck up folks' schedules. Something should be planned for February and the dark times of winter...

November

October 26, 2006 - 3:59pm

I always felt it was because it was the month when the weather first made people want to stay inside... at least in the more wintry parts of the northern hemisphere.

Here's my favorite poem for November (by Thomas Hood, 1844).

No sun - no moon!
No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! -
November!

nanowrimo

October 30, 2006 - 8:59pm

I heard about NaNoWriMo a few weeks back and signed up... but, November 1st-30th is also my deadline for working up the results of an Annual Salary Survey (nearly 8,000 respondents this year, that's A LOT of data to sift through), but, I leave for training on the 24th, so will be very busy and really only have 3 weeks to finish it by the magazine publication deadline. ~sigh~ I would LOVE to do it, though. Really. I went to the kickoff party here in St. Louis on Sunday which was a lot of fun.

I don't really want to try the whole NaBlaPoMo thing... I started the blog so I could stop a monthly eZine I used to run... ie, to write less! lol. Also, my main blog is professionally oriented, so I can't make sort of rambling or fluff posts very often without driving away my readership.

More power to everyone participating in any of these! The DrawMo sounds very cool. I have that shelf full of supplies as well. ;)

Mucho emo for NaNoWriMo

What the heck, I'm having a stab.

Good wishes for NaBloPoMo

October 31, 2006 - 7:42am

but since I already signed up for NaNoWriMo I have more to do than I can possibly handle. I've written some posts for my blog in advance, though. Otherwise all the November posts will consist of "Wrote 1.700 words. Shit."

But I'm thrilled to see some of my favorite bloggers write more often since they are participating.

Nanowrimo is here. Howz it

November 1, 2006 - 12:13pm

Nanowrimo is here. Howz it going for all you guys?

I signed up for it this time, but I doubt I will be writing a novel. I needed to write content for a site I'm setting up, so I'm doing that really under the garb of Nano. Got some writing done today, but nowhere near Nano's astronomical daily count estimate.

I'm glad though that it's timed in November. For one thing, daylight saving just started, so I get that extra hour in the morning to write.

Good luck everyone!!!!

November 1, 2006 - 2:00pm

NaBloWriMo is going to be a challenge for me. I started out posting every day when I began blogging and now I'm a slacker so I think this will be fun and will give me more writing challenges, too. Coming up with new content is a goal!
