Since I've been managing my better half's cold this week, I figured I had better brush-up on which home remedies work best. Here's what I found.

Delicious Coma had the flu while she was teaching English in Japan. Since her usual remedies, phở and tom yum gai, were not available, what did she discover in her new home?

A Variety of Fine Pickles, who wasn't quite sure what hit her ("the flu. a cold. malaria."), asked readers for advice on how to get better, got it and tried some of it.

Letha’s Health Secrets posts bookmark-worthy natural remedies and prevention tips for both colds and the flu.

BlogHer Contributing Editor mipmup also blogs at mipmup.

I also am a fan of Zicam. Airborne works really well too, however it is a preventative. I take it whenever I fly.

Debra, too funny, I posted the recipe for that Thai Chicken Soup ( http://kalynskitchen.blogspot.com/2006/10/thai-chi... ) on my blog today. It's a slightly Americanized version, but very good. Never thought of it as a cold remedy, but I can see how the spicy/hot/sour combination would be great when you're under the weather.

While Zicam is my preferred treatment for a cold (especially since I can't take decongestants)... I always feel better during a cold or flu after a bowl of tom ka gai.

There's a product called Zicam that really works. It's a homepathic zinc derivative, sold otc, and if you take it when you first start getting the cold, it makes it much shorter and less severe.
