Although their numbers are growing, cancer survivors in their twenties and thirties often express that the current support network for this disease does not adequately reflect on their problems and concerns. Many of the available groups and publications focus on the "traditional" cancer survivor in their fifties and sixties, focusing on such issues as retirement and estate planning. This unintentional slight often alienates younger survivors, many of whom are trying to start a family or become established in a career while dealing with the ups and downs of cancer treatment.
In a step towards rectifying this situation, the Blog Carnival "Real Cancer, Real Lives" was started by Cary Miller as a way to address the issues faced by younger survivors, as well as to dispel the relentlessly positive spin that the media casts. This week's edition is being hosted by Minerva at A Woman of Many Parts. Please read and prepare to be enlightened, angered, and to have fun all at the same time.
