Hospital officials say it looks like body armor saved ABC anchor Bob Woodruff's life. Woodruff and his cameraman Doug Vogt were seriously injured when a roadside bomb exploded while they filmed a report in Iraq. Michelle Malkin is reminding everyone that others were injured or killed this week in Iraq.

Hurricane victims across the country have until today to apply for financial assistance. FEMA plans to stop paying for hotels next week and officials are urging anyone still in need of housing or financial help to file an extension.
Meanwhile a tiny "Katrina Cottage" at the International Builders' Show in Orlando made a BIG impression. Lucky White Girl calls it the answer to the FEMA trailer.

"If there's anything good that came out of Katrina, this might be it. This is what humanity can do. This is what we can do, as a society, when we get our priorities straight and put our vast resources to work. Home. Say it out loud. It's such a good word. Home."

US agents say a Mexican citizen has been arrested on drug charges in the investigation into the longest cross-border tunnel ever found along the U.S.-Mexico border. The unnamed suspect will be arraigned today on charges of conspiracy to import a controlled substance.

Over two tons of marijuana were found inside the 24-hundred foot tunnel that ran from Tijuana to San Deigo.

Heidi at Cao's Blog calls the recent border breaches part of a big problem that is falling, she claims, on deaf ears in Washington.
"Deceitful Mexican government officials have disavowed any knowledge of such breaches, instead presenting laughable theories of "American soldiers disguised as Mexicans". Even our own Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff, has covered for the Mexicans by dismissing border incursion as mere navigational "mistakes". (He's failed to comment on the gunfire from said "lost" Mexican soldiers.)"

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas is promising to respect peace deals with Israel while he dismissed suggestions he will resign. Ababas' Fatah party was defeated by Hamas in last week's elections.
Moorish Girl calls Hamas' win depressing and amusing, because it forced President Bush to admit democracy was on the move in the region.
But Laila El-Haddad at Diary of a Mother Under Occupation says a heartbreaking story of a 9-year old girl was missed in all the election coverage.
