Support World AIDS Day

From the World AIDS Campaign: Efforts to halt AIDS are falling far short of their targets. Over 25 million people have been lost to AIDS so far, and 4.3 million people were infected with HIV this year. The spread of HIV is quickening – with more people infected in 2006 than in any previous year. This is despite the number of promises by world leaders to provide services to curb the rates of infection and to bring down deaths.

What have you done to keep the promise to end AIDS by 2015? If you aren't involved, then get involved. If you don't have enough knowledge, then get information.

If all you can manage to do is go see a movie, then 3 Needles opens in some US theaters tomorrow. (If you are lucky enough to live in a major US city and can see this movie, please come back and share a review.)

How about reading a book, you can do that! And the band played on and There is no me without you are two places to start. (If you have other book recommendations, please share them.)

Or take a few minutes to surf some blogs that talk regularly about HIV/AIDS. My Journey With AIDS, The Tao of Jeremy, Visual AIDS and the Nata Village Blog. There's also the AIDS LifeCycle Podcast.

Mahalo, Denise. I've avoided thinking too closely about losing Eddie for eight long years. But I think it's important for everyone to see these stories from time to time, so I decided it was time to share his life. 25 million plus is so much more than just a number. 25 million individuals, each with a life story cut short. Each left someone behind who mourns.

My friend skeeter wrote this post ( http://skeetsclutteredlife.blogspot.com/2006/11/ed... ) about her brother, Eddie, after I'd already submitted my Blogher piece - otherwise, I'd have included it. Go read it, please.

I’ll be watching And the Band Played On again soon, Eddie. I’ll be thinking of you, and then of so many others. I’ll cry and hurt and then become enraged, for you and for them. And Eddie, you were wrong one last time. They still haven’t found a cure.
